Dear Lakeview Families and Friends, Next week is SAFETY WEEK at Lakeview! Our school Safety Committee (made up of parents and staff) has designated this week as a time where concerned community members work together to remind parents to slow down, be safe, and follow our school drop-off/pick-up procedures. This is an opportunity to get involved and provide positive role modeling for students and families around these procedures that benefit student safety at Lakeview. The areas of safety focus we will highlight are the Parking Lots, Drive Through Areas, and the Cross Walks. However, your support is also needed in the following areas. PARKING LOTS: - Parents need to significantly reduce their speed as they move into the parking areas. The police have recommended a five (5) mile per hour rate for our parking lot.
- While moving through line, please attend to the Student Safety Patrol member who is assisting your child in exiting or entering your vehicle. Please help the Student Patrols to enable your child to exit or enter your car safety and expediently.
DRIVE THROUGH AREAS ON STATE AND 68th: - Students must exit and enter cars on the curb side.
- Parents cannot leave their cars unattended if they are in the drop-off or pick-up lane.
- Parents picking up students need to follow the drive through in both areas.
- If you are attending a meeting, you may park your car; otherwise, you need to go through the drive through. In particular, we have had parents parking their car in the State pick up, rather than joining in the pick-up lane.
CROSS WALKS: - Kids crossing without parents must wait by the flagpole until 8:45 AM to enter the school grounds.
- ALL Parents and adults need to yield to the adult crossing supervision.
- Parents, teach your children to "Look both ways and look once again" prior to crossing in a cross walk.
A key message from the Kirkland Police Department is the importance of the fact that we are always teaching our students the crucial safety rules we hold in our community, through our modeling as important adults in their lives. Thank you for your part in taking the focus established during SAFETY WEEK forward throughout the entire school year! 5th and 6th Grade Information As you know the Lake Washington School District will be reconfiguring grade levels beginning in the Fall of 2012. As such, Lakeview will become a school for students in Kindergarten through grade five. As we move toward this change in the grade levels we have traditionally had, the following plans are in place: - Recognition and celebration events will be held to honor both this year's fifth and sixth graders:
- Fifth Grade- Wednesday, 6/20
- Sixth Grade- Thursday, 6/21 (Tentative Date-to be confirmed in January)
- Informational sessions for students who will be attending Kirkland Middle School next year will be held on:

- 6th Grade Parent Night, Tuesday 1/31 at 7pm at Kirkland Junior High Commons (for current 6th grade parents)
