Dear Leopard Families and Friends,

On behalf of the entire Lakeview staff, we welcome you to a new school year! It is a joy to see returning and new Lakeview Leopards transition into their classrooms, renewing and initiating friendships with their peers. I know you share with me a great pride and appreciation for the staff's hard work preparing for the school year. Their dedication, commitment and compassion in developing a positive and nurturing learning environment for our students is exemplary!

Please join me in giving a special "welcome" to our new staff:

--Kristen Beck: Counselor (while Marcee Ben-Menachem is on maternity leave this fall).

--Kim Brandon: Office Secretary (replacing Mrs. Peterson who retired).

--Ann Burton: AM Kindergarten teacher.

--Dave Dominguez: Tech Support Specialist.

--Jennifer Dressel: SPED team, Safety Net teacher.

--Larry Mahoney: Night Custodian.

This week Karla Coghlan joined the sixth grade team. She was formerly a fourth grade job share teacher with Kellie Adams. This move facilitated lower class sizes for sixth grade. Karla and Kellie will now be teaching full time at Lakeview.

It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Welcome Back BBQ and last night's Curriculum Night. What a tremendous turn out we had; such a powerful statement. We value your support and know that active parent involvement has a profound effect on a child's performance at school. We would like to recognize and thank you for your commitment. Parents make a significant difference at Lakeview Elementary School. We appreciate all of you!

We are proud to serve the children and families of the Lakeview community and look forward to working with you as partners in your child's education. We invite you to become involved in your child's education by volunteering, participating in school activities, or serving as a parent representative on a school or PTSA committee. You are your child's first, most important and most influential teacher. We must work together to achieve responsible, intelligent learners who are prepared for tomorrow's world.

At Lakeview, our staff and families are keenly focused on student safety. We have met as a staff and worked collaboratively to articulate the expectations we have for our students. We ask all families to help with the following areas of focus:

·           Drop off students no earlier than 8:45 as we do not have playground supervision

·           Walk student(s) around the building to the location where they line up each morning  (rather than walking through the main office).

In addition, if you are driving your child to school, please be patient and mindful of pedestrians. The majority of Lakeview students are able to walk to school. It was not designed to handle the multitude of families who prefer to drive. If you are dropping your child off in the morning or picking them up in the afternoon, please know that you will be in a queue and expected to wait your turn until a Student Patrol Officer or an Adult Supervisor can assist you. Thank you for honoring these helpful safety rules at Lakeview. As adults, we model for our children with our every action. Together we can model patience, waiting our turn, and respect for our neighbors.

Warm Regards,

Shawna Rothaus
