Dear Lakeview Families and Friends,

Thank you to the many families who were able to join us for Curriculum Night. We had 76% of our parents with us that evening. Parents were informed about the curriculum that will be covered for this year at each grade level and how our parents can partner to support their children's learning.

The opening of the 2011-2012 school year has been extremely rewarding for the members of the Lakeview family. We have watched children return to us bursting with positive energy toward learning. Our smooth opening is a direct reflection of the quality of families and staff we have in our community. By working together we have created a very positive learning environment for children. Thank you.

We invite you to become involved in your child's education. Support high expectations for academic achievement and citizenship by joining our wonderful PTSA and volunteering in our school. You are your child's first, most important and most influential teacher and we value your contributions.

This fall we received the MSP data for students in grades 4-6 and have sent home copies of the individual student data to families. (Specific passing percentages for each grade are provided at the end of this article.) The staff and I are in the process of reviewing the data and determining our building/grade level goals for the 2011-2012 Continuous Improvement Plan for Lakeview.

Next week we look forward to welcoming all parents to join their child and teacher to participate in our Student-Led Goal Setting Conferences. This is our second year with this format. We are impressed with the responsibility that our students are taking for their learning through this process and the participatory role Lakeview parents have played in helping their children work toward the achievement of their goals. Please note that we are not able to provide child care for siblings during these conferences.

The intentionality around the success of each individual student's success and the collaboration of our teaching staff and parents plays a significant part in this success. At Lakeview, we believe and focus our work on the success of each child, and celebrate the tremendous support we have for our students' academic growth within each family in our school. We are so proud of EACH student in our school and look forward to a year of continued excellence!

Once again, welcome to an outstanding new year. I look forward to working with you as partners in the process of developing capable, successful and loving children. Thanks for sharing your children with us.

Warm Regards,

Shawna Rothaus, Lakeview Elementary Principal
