| Message From The PTSA President
Dear Leopard Families and Friends,
On behalf of the Lakeview PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association), we welcome you to the 2011-2012 school year! We were happy to see so many families at last week's BBQ and to see so many parents at our first PTSA meeting during Curriculum Night. Part of what makes Lakeview a great learning community is all the support from our families. I encourage every family to join the Lakeview PTSA, and to take an active role in education. We'd love to have members of your extended family join as well - grandparents, aunts, uncles - they can all play an important part in modeling involvement in education. Joining the PTSA gives you a greater voice in letting our lawmakers in Olympia know how important education is to our community, something very important at times like this when budgets are tight and almost any program runs the risk of being cut. For more information, please visit Lakeview PTSA.
Thank you,
|

We Need You!
One of the the PTSA's goals is to support Lakeview teachers and staff so that our children receive the best education possible. PTSA Board members work with school staff to plan and improve programs and activities that will enrich our students' educational experience. These activities are not possible without volunteers. We encourage all parents to join the PTSA and find an area where you enjoy volunteering. Whether helping at a school event, chairing a committee, or working on a project from home, there is something to fit everyone's schedule. To see where you can volunteer, check out the Help Wanted page on the Lakeview website, return the blue Volunteer Form included in the First Day Packet, or contact Katy Basnaw at lakptsavolunteer@gmail.com. |

Scholastic Book Fair Begins October 3rd
It's our favorite time of year: half days, conferences and the Scholastic Bookfair! We hope you will take time to stop by the library with your children when you are on campus. Proceeds from the book fair are the main budget source for our library. Lakeview students benefit twice through their purchases! Details about the bookfair, including dates, hours, special events and the new "online" component can be found on the Lakeview/Scholastic Homepage . For those of you who can't make it to campus, check out the new online shopping link. Pass the link on to family and friends so they can shop, too! All online purchases will be delivered to Lakeview for distribution. Please plan accordingly. Looking forward to seeing you October 3-6 at the bookfair!

Destination ImagiNation: Calling New Members!
Destination ImagiNation is a unique enrichment program that offers 3rd through 6th graders a real-world experience in creativity, teamwork and problem solving. Teams are comprised of up to seven Lakeview students who work together for several weeks/months to create their solutions to Team Challenges, which can have a theatrical, structural, improvisational, scientific or technical focus. Teams are led by adult volunteer team managers who act as facilitators and who conduct weekly team meetings. To preview the challenges for the 2012 regional tournament scheduled for March, go to the DI website.
Last year's Lakeview Coolcumber Club DI team competed in the Regional Tournament, qualified for the State Tournament, and were the WA State Champions in their chosen challenge at the elementary school level in 2011! They traveled to Tennessee in May to compete in the Global Finals and tied for 12th place out of more than 70 teams participating! Read the details of their challenge on the Lakeview website: Destination ImagiNation.
Kindergarteners through 2nd graders can participate in the non-competitive Rising Stars program. It's a great way for younger students to get started with DI. Learn more about the Rising Stars Program.
Didn't have a chance to stop by the DI table during the BBQ and Curriculum Night last week? If your student is interested in joining a team, contact Chitra at chitrasa@hotmail.com or 425-739-9289. For more information about this amazing program, please visit www.idodi.org or www.wa-di.org.
Thanks,
Chitra Subramanian

Code of Conduct
Dear Lakeview Families and Friends, "Work Hard, Be Kind, Be Safe". These words are spoken often by students and staff. Do we know how to explain this paraphrase to our children? The Lakeview Student Behavior Matrix was created as an informational tool parents and students could reference when discussing the Lakeview Code of Conduct. Examples of specific behaviors are listed. Please take time to periodically review the document with your student(s). Your efforts help to build a stronger school community.
Warm Regards, Shawna Rothaus |
