In the spirit of the holidays, we wanted to share some good cheer from our most recent activites ...

On November 4th, we hosted our Celebration of Partnerships event.

The annual event honors a variety of local municipalities, organ2011 Honoreesizations and individuals for their support of recent affordable housing projects. With 230 guests in attendance, this year's honorees included Mayor Carolyn Kirk who accepted for the City of Gloucester for thier ongoing efforts to provide affordable family rental housing, assisted living, and first-time homebuyer access for elders, working families and those with disabilities; Jack Meany who accepted for the YMCA of the North Shore for their efforts to create housing opportunity for those in need on the North Shore and beyond; and, our Outgoing Harborlight Community Partners Board President, and the Executive Director of North Shore Elder Services, Paul Lanzikos, who we honored for or his many years of faithful leadership and service to HCP and the broader elder services community.  Click here for a list of Event Sponsors

On November 14th we celebrated the completion of renovations at Firehouse Place, 69 Willow Street, Hamilton.

Event speakers included HCP Board President and Vice President, Carol Suleski and Bob Gillis; Acord Food Pantry Co-President, Ann Marie Cullen; Hamilton Selectman, Dave Carey; Representative Brad Hill; and a representative from Senator FHP Ribbon CuttingBruce Tarr's office. Ceremonial ribbon cuttings were held at the front door of Firehouse Place and the entrance to Acord and the building was open for tours for guests and neighbors.

This project is the Town of Hamilton's first Community Preservation Fund supported affordable housing project. Following the groundbreaking last June and five months of intense renovations, the building that once served as Hamilton's fire station is completely updated and the new home to four individuals, and the new permanant home to the Acord Food Pantry. The building renovations designed by Siemasko & Verbridge and constructed by The Martins Companies, include four energy efficient affordable studio apartment rentals including a first floor unit designed for a disabled elderly person. Residents are moving in this week and the Acord Food Pantry has been busily back in business. On December 1, 2011, we finalized the purchase of Pigeon Cove Ledges in Rockport.

Following a multi-year effort, and thanks in large part to the Town of Rockport's investment through the Community Preservation Fund and the Rockport Housing Partnership, Harborlight Community Partners acquired the expiring use property at 13 Curtis Street from the original developers. PCLThis new effort by Harborlight Community Partners will protect and improve the current 30 one-bedroom apartments, four of which are handicapped accessible, for fixed income elders. Pigeon Cove Ledges is 22% of all the affordable housing in Rockport so it was critical to make sure it did not convert to market rate.

In addition to the local financial support, the preservation of Pigeon Cove Ledges was supported by the North Shore HOME Consortium and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) which provided a new low interest loan of $2.4 million dollars. Harborlight Community Partners is especially appreciative of the efforts of Mr. Seth Pitts of the USDA and all the local public officials who worked to make sure Pigeon Cove Ledges would be protected.

Renovations of the 25 year old building, including various safety and accessibility additions including adding an elevator and sprinkler system, will begin in the spring of 2012. A community celebration and open house is planned for the summer following completion the rehabilitation, so stay tuned.
