Local Arts --
St. Mark's is blessed to have so many different artists in the congregation. Over the next couple of weeks, we will give a nod to St. Mark's musicians and their arts venues--feel free to contact them about these different groups and organizations and/or visit the websites (when available):
- Steve Wolbrecht (vocalist / pianist) is part of the Illumni Men's Chorale (www.illumnimenschorale.com) and Igneous Rocks (www.igrocks.com/). Independently, he has scored and recorded 3.5 movies for Dead Gentlemen Productions (of which he is a founding member) A soundtrack (for JourneyQuest, in which Emilie Shimkus has a major role) just came out in iTunes this summer (www.zombieorpheus.com/profiles/blogs/journeyquest-soundtrack-now-available).
- Tony Daniels (guitar) is part of a local band called the Dignitaries, which has recorded one album. He says, "{The band members} are all friends from high school who never got to see each other anymore (life happened and we had families and careers and such). Instead of a poker night we decided to have a jam night once a month since we all played instruments as a way to visit. What started out as an excuse to hang out turned into a full-on band after about 9 months. For the past 2 years we've been playing bars and clubs around the Puget Sound region." Check out their Facebook page www.facebook,com/pages/The-Dignitaries/163224083511.
- Craig Cootsona (drumset) plays with many different jazz ensembles in the Tacoma / Seattle area.

Need for Children's Coats - Skyline Elementary, our neighborhood school, is in need of winter coats for children. If you have coats, sizes 4-14, that your children have outgrown and you are willing to share, please bring them to the box outside the church office. Thank you!
Adopt A Family For Christmas -Again this year St. Mark's will be sponsoring families in our midst and in our community who are in need of food for Christmas dinner and gifts for family members. Please prayerfully consider giving two gifts to an individual (or individuals, if you wish) or a cash contribution to help purchase food. Toward the end of November look for the wooden Christmas Tree. You'll see it covered with paper ornaments. Each ornament shape denotes a family and each individual has a number (for privacy reasons). Each ornament has information on one family member and a "wish list" of gifts that person would enjoy. These are suggestions only. If you wish to buy gifts for an individual or individuals take the top ornament sheet off the tree. Put your name and phone number on the ornament underneath and place it in the manila envelope on the wall. If you would like to donate money to buy food for the families, there are ornaments on the tree with varying dollar amounts. Buy and wrap the two gifts and be sure to TAPE the person's ornament number on each gift. We will put tags on your gifts with the person's name on it. We will deliver all food and gifts on the morning of December 21. Please have gifts to church no later than Sunday, December 18. Questions? Judy Droubay (253-759-6720) or Mary Jo Holum (253-752-3304).

From the Parish Nurses--
Type 2 Diabetes
Causes -- Type 2 diabetes develops when the body becomes resistant to insulin or when the pancreas stops producing enough insulin. Exactly why this happens is unknown, although excess weight and inactivity seem to be important factors.
Insulin is a hormone that comes from the pancreas, a gland located just behind the stomach. When you eat, the pancreas secretes insulin into the bloodstream. As insulin circulates, it acts like a key by unlocking microscopic doors that allow sugar to enter your cells. Insulin lowers the amount of sugar in your bloodstream. As your blood sugar level drops, so does the secretion of insulin from your pancreas.
In Type 2 diabetes, this process works improperly. Instead of moving into your cells, sugar builds up in your bloodstream. This occurs when your pancreas doesn't make enough insulin or your cells become resistant to the action of insulin. (Mayoclinic.com)
Parish Nurse Hours --
Wednesdays -- 5:15-7:00pm; Thursdays -- 9:00-noon;
or by appt.
