Making a Difference.
"A few people can make a huge difference". Crystal Mountain Resort and Spa was hosting a conference of the Council of Michigan Foundations and including an activity for the children. Chris MacInnes, of Crystal Mountain, suggested Grow Benzie to see if we would like to send a representative to participate and try to secure a grant. The children, ages 8 - 18, would be given exposure in foundation work, and would be the ones evaluating the merit of the different grant requests.
The idea of requesting $250 for supplies to help with finishing the Platte River Elementary hoop house was conceived. Our intern, John Everett took on the task of writing the grant and making the presentation. Working with Jackie Hice, Grow Benzie volunteer who is involved with the school, John composed a list of materials. Gary Michalek, another volunteer prepped John on the value of Gary's worm boxes so it could be explained to the children. John took in 4 sizes of tomato plants along with the worm boxes and gave a 20-minute presentation.
The outcome? Grow Benzie was awarded a grant of $700 to help with establishing the Platte River Elementary hoop house so all the children benefit. Meetings have already been held, and work has begun.
Many thanks to Rob Collier and the Michigan Council of Foundations, Chris MacInnes of Crystal Mountain Resort and Spa, Jackie Hice, Gary Michalek, and of course, our intern, John Everett.

The Live Auction:
The Porsche is 1990 911 Carerra 4 (WD) Convertible with 50,000 miles. For the affectionato's it is the 28th year of the 911 series (still being manufactured) it is in the last years of air cooled engines (which makes it particularly desireable for collectors) and in excellent condition. The traceable history goes back to Dallas, Santa Fe (two owners), and now Crystal Lake. Grow Benzie bought it from a widow's estate, who only owned it for 18 months; previous owner was a collector of "interesting Porsches" and held the car for 12 years which accounts for the extremely low mileage and great condition. Car has been updated with next generation air conditioning, new interior top, and the bonnet has been repainted to get it in current condition. Older Porsche pricing is uniqueness of the model; mileage, and condition - this car has all three - if interested car will be available for viewing and driving right up to the date of the auction 231 882 9801 or 505 660 0023

The Jag is a 2000 XKR Convertible
again with 51000 miles. This car was built after Ford made the aquisition and quality upgraded the product. It is one of the great "style" cars as reflect in the Jag's linage of great convertibles back to XKE's and beyond. The car is luxuary at its best and sold in the $80 -$90,000 range in 2000. This car has been personally owned for the last 6 years and driven less than 10,000 miles, garaged, a no rain car and the condition reflects it. Prior owner was Atlanta, Georgia and car has had no exposure to salt water or snow. Fabulous cottage car and turns heads whereever it goes - had some neat cars, but this one turns heads and hearts. Come see it before the auction 231 882 9801 or 505 660 0023.
