Greetings!
A recent study done by professors at Carnegie Mellon University, MIT, and Georgia Tech took a look at which types of tweets provide value to readers, and which types of tweets are generally disliked. The study surveyed 1,443 Twitter users who rated 43,738 tweets during a 19-day period. Results showed that only 36% of tweets are worth reading, 39% are mediocre at best, and 25% of tweets are not worth reading at all. (Hubspot)

What Not To Tweet |
1. Personal conversations. Although I don't mind having a lively debate on Facebook, I don't need everyone to know I'm having a discussion with my husband about what time we're having dinner.
2. Updates about your mood. If you want people to know about your mood, post it on your personal Facebook wall.....or maybe - not at all.
3. Updates about your activities. The one thing that really bugs me (I don't know about you), is when people indicate on any social media platform where they are at any given moment. Where you're having breakfast, if you're working out, if you're home - people don't need to know this and it becomes overkill after awhile which prompts people to stop following you on Twitter.

What To Tweet |
1. Links to other content. It starts a conversation, which is what Twitter is all about. Conversations lead to opinions or reviews.
2. Questions to your followers. This shows engagement. If the question is thought provoking and general in nature, it starts up a conversation and can even build relationships based on how the conversation ends up.
3. Offers and promotions. Social media is a great outlet to promote any special offer your business has at the moment, and Twitter is no exception. You can provide a link to a coupon on your website, or a special coupon code for people to use to take advantage of the offer.
4. Data and Research. I love this! I find it interesting to look at the latest research about social media and website development. So, if you're following someone in your field of interest, they may provide some great data for you to use with your own business. You, in turn, can do the same!
