Butler Winery's Brew Supply
February 2012
Greetings!

Hello friend, Hope all is well with you! Spring is almost here and the hop growers are getting antsy.  If you want to grow your own & don't have any planted yet, the time has arrived! New hops plants grow from the roots (or rhizomes) of established females. Growers will head out to the hopfields near the middle of March to cut roots before the vines wake up. Hops grow fast (up to a foot a day in ideal conditions!) & can make a quick cover on your fencerow or whatever structure is closest to them. If you have pesky neighbors or if you just want to make some beer with your own homegrown hops you should read on to find out more.
Rhizome Varieties

Rhizomes will ship to us the week of  March 25th. You can go to the brewing supplies page on our website to find detailed info on which varieties are best for your location.

On our wesite you will also find a link to a rhizome planting & care guide that details in a concise 5 pages how to grow your own hops.

Mostly hops like a sunny location with well-drained soil.  It suggests to plant hops of the same variety atleast 3 ft apart, & different cultivars a good 5 ft apart, so you can actually tell where one vine ends & next begins. The rhizomes will be $5.95 each, but if you purchase 2 to 5, they are $5.50 each and orders of 6 or more are $5.25 each.  If you'd like to secure your choice of rhizomes, place your pre-orders by end of day Monday, February 27th. (Yes that is this coming Monday!)

For more information, you can visit our brew & wine supply page on our website & scroll down to "hops & rhizomes" or just click the links above.
