Greetings!
Lots of things are going on this month. The winter here in southern Indiana has been cold & snowy and we're trying to break out of the monotony of low temperatures & lots of shoveling. First & foremost, the Butler Winery would like to invite you to join us at our vineyard on Saturday, the 19th, for our very first "Meet The Growers" event, featuring Val Lyn Vineyards from the Salem, Indiana area. This event will also coincide with the Grand Release of our 2010 Traminette! And Chocolate Lovers Weekend with the Indiana Upland Wine Trail is going on this month as well. Read on to find out more! And if you have any questions at all, let me know. You can reach me anytime via email at vineyard@butlerwinery.comCheers! Amy

Meet The Growers
Visit Butler Winery, at the vineyard, on Feb 19 th, & "Meet The Growers"! This first-time event will be held in conjunction with the Grand Release of our 2010 Traminette as well as the second Saturday of the IUWT's Chocolate Lover's Weekend. Meet The Growers will feature Val Lyn Vineyards of Washington County, Indiana. They have three acres of Chambourcin & Traminette at their vineyard just east of Salem. The vineyard lies within the boundaries of the proposed Indiana Uplands viticultural area and they have plans in the works for a future winery and tasting room at their vineyard, but in the meantime we are pleased to be able to purchase and ferment the fruits of their labor. We've used their grapes to make both of our vintages of Traminette and at times, we use their Chambourcin grapes to blend in with our grapes for the Red Select & Indiana Red wines. The owners of Val-Lyn will be available throughout the day to answer grape-growing questions, offer advice & even sign your bottle of the 2010 Traminette. Come to the vineyard on saturday so you don't miss this unique opportunity to meet the people behind the grapes!

New Wine Releases, Including the Grand Release of our
2010 Traminette!
There's not a lot going on with the vines these days but that gives Jim, Eric & Jake plenty of time in the cellar to get the new vintages bottled. They have been on a wine-a-week schedule & with today that will make 6 weeks, so we've got 6 new wines and blends to tell you about. - Vineyard Rosé, With the great success of last year's blend of rosé (it won a gold medal & was named best of its class at the Indy International), we've opted for a blend of the same three varietals for this one. The Catawba, Concord, Chambourcin blend for this years' bottling of our sweet and grapy rosé will more than please your palate & keep you coming back for more. And at $8.95 a bottle, you will be able to come back often. (Unless we sell out of it like last year, then, well, you'll just have to wait for the next round!)
- Vineyard Red- Welch's with a kick, or breakfast wine, whatever you call it, this one is Concord through & through. This sweet wine with a little tannin on the finish is sure to pair well with dark chocolate, sharp cheddar cheeses & even pizza! There's no pomp & circumstance with this one! The price is not bad either; it's just $8.95!
- Vineyard White- Made from Catawba. This awesome wine has the classically grapy taste with a little grapeskin zing on the finish. An excellent balance of sweet-tart. Very nice wine and a steal for $8.95 per bottle. Buy it now, I think this one is going to be a big hit. (With the judges too!)
- 2010 Vidal - This is only the' second vintage of our popular off-dry white wine from our vineyard. It's tasty and since it is a limited production wine we recommend you visit soon to get yours before its gone.
- 2009 Chambourcin - in the bottle but not officially released yet. As the 2008 sells out we will start stocking the bins with the newest vintage of this medium-body french oak-aged dry red. This wine was fabulous right out of the barrel! The supply of our 2008 vintage is dwindling quickly so keep your eyes peeled, it will be available very soon.
- 2010 Traminette - Last but absolutely not least, this vintage of Traminette is lightly floral, slightly fruity & so yummy that we know you will want to take a few bottles home with you! Come see us at our vineyard on Saturday the 19th to join us for the Grand Release of our Traminette & talk shop with the owners of Val Lyn Vineyards, the great people who grow these grapes for us!
Visit the wine list on our website to find out current pricing & descriptions of all the wines we produce. |
You can find out a little more about Chocolate Lover's Weekends on the Indiana Upland Website, but be sure to check the following news release out to see what we have planned for you & your palate!

Chocolate Lover's Weekends on the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail
FRENCH LICK - The Indiana Uplands Wine Trail (IUWT) is enticing chocolate lovers to bring their sweethearts to the wineries this month for free chocolates. The nine wineries will be offering four days of free chocolate and wine pairings to celebrate Valentine's Day. 2011 marks six years of offering chocolate and wine during February at the wineries along the Uplands Wine Trail which reaches from Bloomington on the north to the I-64 corridor on the south. The event attracts both oenophiles and chocophiles alike. The best part is the event is absolutely free. During the weekends of February 12/13 and 19/20 each winery along the trail will pair their award-winning wines with tempting chocolate treats. Dan Adams of Winzerwald Winery says the event is so popular that even snowy days during last year's event did not hurt attendance, although he admitted "Super Bowl Sunday was a little slow since our very own Colts were playing!" "It's a really fun weekend, whether with a group of friends or as a romantic getaway. Combined with an overnight stay at an area cabin or B&B it's a sure cure for the winter blues," Adams says. Along the northern portion of the wine trail you can find Oliver Winery serving Gourmet Hand Painted Chocolate Truffles from Ghyslain Chocolatier. Butler Winery will be serving chocolate heartshaped cups with assorted fillings and an array of brownies and chocolates. Butler will release several new wines, including new vintages of Traminette & Vidal. In conjunction with Chocolate Lover's, on Saturday the 19th, they will host their first "Meet the Growers" event at their vineyard. Carousel Winery will be offering decadent edible chocolate cups filled with the wine of your choice and free samples of Carousel's own in-house produced creamy fudges. Carousel will release their Indiana Persimmon wine and offer Amish signed & dated Woven Wine Baskets to fill with the wine of your choice and a Wine-A-Rita mix or candle for a wonderful Valentine's day gift. Some of the offerings along the south leg of the wine trail will be Winzerwald Winery featuring their newly released Cabernet Sauvignon & Black Riesling along with their famous fruit wines and warm mulled wine with four chocolate cheesecakes: Heavenly Chocolate, Cookies & Cream, Chocolate Turtle and Raspberry White Chocolate. French Lick Winery will highlight San Francisco chocolates with your choice of wines. Best Vineyards is serving Chocolate Paté with Hazelnut gluten free crackers, Creamy peanut-butter fudge dipped in dark chocolate, Chocolate oatmeal gluten & sugar free cookies sweetened with honey, and Strawberry Flame Balls (a twist on the traditional Bourbon Balls). Now comprised of nine wineries - Brown County, Butler, Oliver, Carousel, French Lick, Winzerwald, Turtle Run, Best and Huber - the Uplands Wine Trail was formed in 2003. Visit www.IndianaUplands.com for links to individual wineries and their event schedules. Tickets are also now on sale at the wineries for "March Gladness" March 12/13 and 19/20 the most popular of Wine Trail events pairing wines with a host of foods from entrees to desserts in a VIP atmosphere. ###
It's all happening along the Indiana Upland Wine Trail, this Saturday & Sunday, February 12th & 13th and next Saturday & Sunday, February 19th & 20th
