Chilled beams have taken the HVAC market by storm during the last decade, with one of the primary advantages being a significant increase in the floor to ceiling height by reducing the amount of pipe and ductwork throughout a building. But there is more! Chilled beams also provide an excellent opportunity to combine a variety of services, including speakers, lighting, electrical connections and cabling into a single unit referred to as a Multi-Service Chilled Beam (MSCB).
An MSCB is simply a standard chilled beam with wings added to the face in order to provide housing for the beam's customer-selected components. The wings are made out of aluminum or steel, allowing options for creating individual aesthetic designs.
Architectural Design
Because an MSCB integrates so many services into a single chilled beam unit, architects are afforded greater design flexibility and creativity when planning interior spaces. By combining these components, the ceiling space has a cleaner look, allowing the eye to focus more on design elements and less on clutter. Beams can be freely suspended from the ceiling or flush-mounted. Chilled beams are an excellent solution for new construction and especially for retrofits, where preserving the original building characteristics are important.
Lighting
Lighting can be factory-fitted or pre-cut apertures can be ordered for on-site installation of the lighting elements. Beams can house linear light fittings, halogen spotlights or custom lighting depending on the project requirements.
Energy Efficiency
Active chilled beam systems provide comfortable air conditioning of rooms with a high cooling load. They combine the aerodynamic properties of ceiling diffusers with the energy benefits of heat transfer using water. Active chilled beams have a high cooling capacity with low primary airflow rates and are available in one- and two-way discharge models. Cooling and/or heating is possible.
They are in your budget!
Design flexibility also means price flexibility. With the variety of design options and components available, multi-service chilled beams can be a part of your next project. Contact your local TROX distributor in the
