DAI to Continue Work on HR Academy

DAI, with our partner SRA, was awarded follow-on work to continue supporting DVA's HR Academy. The contract focuses on helping the HR Academy achieve its goal of educating and certifying its 3100+ HR professionals.

DAI's previous work with HR Academy included establishing the program's goals and brand identity, raising awareness of the program through products like newsletters, webcasts and briefings, and supporting HR2U, HR Academy's live training workshops. We are looking forward to continuing our efforts to connect DVA's HR professionals with HR Academy and its professional development resources.

Welcome to the August editionWe're pleased to report that DAI has been named to Inc. magazine's Inc. 500|5000 list again this year--and with a significant climb in ranking. The Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), VA Learning University's Formal Writing Using Plain Language course launched this month. DAI, as part of the SRA team, played a significant role in the development of the five-day blended-learning program, outreach activities and launch. We're also excited about a contract award to continue supporting DVA's HR Academy with our partner SRA, and MyCareer@VA recently received some good press. In our employee spotlight section, communications consultant Derran Eaddy was quoted in PR News! Thank you for supporting the DAI Advisor and remember, past editions can always be accessed on our archive page.

DAI Climbs to 932 on the Inc. 500|5000 List

For the last three years, DAI has been named to Inc. magazine's Inc. 500|5000 list, an annual ranking of the nation's fastest-growing private companies. In 2012, DAI climbed to a ranking of 932, breaking the top 1000 for the first time.

The list focuses on America's independent entrepreneurs, and ranks companies according to percentage of revenue growth over a period of three years. During the 2008 to 2011 measurement period, DAI achieved a 347 percent growth rate. The company also saw an employee growth rate of 343 percent.

"We're thrilled to be on the list again--especially breaking the top 1000," said DAI President and CEO Dr. Sherilyne Dougherty. "DAI has a talented team and that is really the key to building meaningful relationships with our clients and partners and our continued growth and success." Read the full release here.

Formal Writing Course Launched

On July 31, 2012, DVA's VA Learning University (VALU) launched its newest course, Formal Writing Using Plain Language. DAI designed and developed this advanced-level blended-format writing course, which is one of four courses in VALU's Written Communications Learning Program.

In addition to developing the learning program, DAI planned and managed the launch event and developed and implemented a communications campaign to attract participants from across the nation to register for this important course. Emphasizing the importance of plain language in his keynote speech, Assistant Secretary for Human Resources and Administration John U. Sepúlveda said, "If your responsibilities include writing or reviewing complex VA documents, if you want to advance your career and invest in your future, if you want to improve overall customer service to our Veterans, I strongly encourage you to take this course."

Derran Eaddy Quoted in PR News

Derran Eaddy

DAI Communications consultant Derran Eaddy was quoted in a PR News article about political quotation accuracy in the media and the practice of "quote approval" for published quotations. "The important issue to focus on here is ensuring that quotes accurately reflect what a candidate is trying to communicate," he said. "Readers are not well served if a quote is taken out of context or a news article presents a candidate in a way that does not reflect the candidate's intended message."

Derran added that "the media has a tremendous influence on readers' impressions, so candidates should do all they can to ensure they are accurately represented in the media. Once a story is published, it makes an impact and it's too late to go back and correct a misunderstanding." Read the full article here.
