DAI Joins Air Traffic Control Association

DAI has joined the Air Traffic Control Association (ATCA), an organization dedicated to advancement in the science of air traffic control and the preservation of safe flight environments. As an FAA eFAST MOA holder, DAI is proud to be an ATCA corporate member and collaborate with those in the aviation community. As civil aviation builds on technological innovation and continues to rely on a highly qualified workforce, DAI is providing support in our core areas of human capital, learning solutions and communications. DAI will be an exhibitor at the FAA National Small Business and IT Shared Services Partnership & Training Conference in Atlantic City, New Jersey in July, 2012.

DAI Out On the Town
DAI team members will be busy on Monday, May 7th! Two important events are taking place in Washington, DC. The first, Excellence in Government, will be at the Ronald Reagan Building, and is touted as a conference "where world-class management experts from the public and private sector come together to inspire, inform and educate current and rising public sector leaders on the best strategies and practices to further mission and program success."

The second event is the
ACT-IAC 6th Annual Small Business Conference, to be held at the Grand Hyatt Washington. ACT-IAC sponsors this conference each spring focusing on the changing federal landscape, and how small business can leverage opportunities in the federal contracting space. The conference provides a forum in which small businesses can gather and share information to help them succeed in the government marketplace. The conference also seeks to promote the value of small businesses to government agencies and large corporations seeking small business partners.

Welcome to the April edition! This month we're pleased to report that DAI has joined the Air Traffic Control Association as part of our industry engagement and work on our eFAST MOA. We're also launching a program to help our employees grow professionally and manage their DAI careers. We feature an employee whose tutoring work is providing guidance for an Alexandria boy. Also, preparations are underway for the Wounded Warriors event mentioned in last month's edition, and DAI will be hosting a tent throughout the event! Thank you for supporting the DAI Advisor and remember, past editions can always be accessed on our archive page.

DAI Launches Professional Development Program

DAI has launched a professional development program designed to enable our employees to plan and manage their careers. The program will ensure that employees are developing skills and competencies that not only help DAI meet company goals and objectives, but that foster professional growth. The program identifies unifying competencies necessary for success at DAI, and defines and documents the functional responsibilities of the associate and management positions in each practice area.

DAI created a proprietary Career Path Matrix (CPM)
that is used to differentiate job activities and responsibilities of the position levels within each job family while providing employees with a line of sight between their current position and more senior positions within their respective job family.

"This effort is the first step in the development of what will be a suite of career enhancement products and training materials we'll be developing," said John Viarella, DAI's human resources manager. "We want to help our employees plan and advance their careers at DAI."

DAI Spotlight

Employee Volunteers as Tutor/Mentor

Jennifer Lemmert, one of DAI's communications consultants, is a tutor and mentor for a third grade boy through Casa Chirilagua, a faith-based organization serving families in the Chirilagua neighborhood of Alexandria. Every week, she meets with him and they do homework together and study. In addition, she takes him on trips to go bowling, visit museums and art exhibits, play miniature-golf, go to the movies--whatever is the interest of the day. "I think back to fun day trips that I took with my family and try to recreate those for him," she says.

Jennifer has been tutoring for a little over two years now. "It has been very rewarding to see my mentee get excited about learning and feel proud of himself," she says. "Everything is very exciting through the eyes of a child and that excitement is contagious."

Jennifer ardently supports giving back to the community, and thinks it is best to do so in ways that fit one's own interests and personality. "For me, tutoring and mentoring is a perfect fit," she says. "My parents made experiential learning fun when I was growing up and instilled in me the importance of serving others without seeking any kind of reward or accolades."
