DAI Running Club Hits the Trails

DAI launched a weekly running club to take advantage of our riverside location and encourage employee health and fitness. "Running is a fun way to get in shape and build stronger working relationships with colleagues," said Jennifer Lemmert, a communications consultant at DAI and founder of the club. "We are picking up speed and hope to participate in local running events this season."

DAI team members will be taking part in a number of upcoming races, including the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Race for Hope-DC and the Crystal Run 5K Fridays.

Welcome to the March edition!

The Veteran Career Fair and Expo held in DC in January produced some impressive results, and we are happy to report them below. During the next few months, DAI will be participating in a number of events. Members of our Running Club are gearing up for road races for good causes! You can follow DAI via Twitter and Facebook; see the social media links below. Thank you for supporting the DAI Advisor and remember, past editions can always be accessed on our archive page.

Career Fair Numbers Point to Success

The Veteran Career Fair and Expo--highlighted in the January edition of the Advisor--was an ambitious undertaking. Held on January 18, the event provided direct assistance to more than 4,100 Veterans seeking employment opportunities and help accessing benefits and services.

Exhibitors worked as advocates for Veteran employment, ensuring that Veterans were actively recruited, qualified for non-competitive positions, interviewed, hired and received benefits and services--all in a 12-hour time period.

Marketing the event to reach Veterans in DC, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania and North Carolina was critical. An event-specific campaign was backed by local advertising and the VA for Vets website. More than 35,500 unique users visited the website to access event information and view descriptions of available VA positions.

By all accounts, the event was a great success! Here are some of the impressive numbers:

  • Many Veterans took advantage of career coaching services
  • More than 3,100 Veterans registered for VA for Vets services
  • Almost 2,300 interviews were conducted
  • More than 500 offers of employment were extended to Veterans, including more than 150 for federal positions and more than 320 for private sector jobs
  • Nearly 340 Veterans participated in interactive training sessions that focused on resume building, job seeking and interview skills
  • More than 800 Veterans accessed benefits information
  • 30 homeless Veterans received assistance and two received job offers

DAI Has Big Presence at Upcoming Events

DAI is sponsoring, participating in and exhibiting at a number of events. Once again we will be participating in The Training Officers Consortium's (TOC) TOC LogoAnnual Institute, returning as a sponsor, event chair and exhibitor. This three-day conference provides skill-building workshops, seminars and sessions. The Training Officers Consortium is a nonprofit organization of federal trainers and other professionals from industry and academia, who are interested in contributing to human capital and training knowledge and best practices. This year's event will be held in Ocean City, MD, April 22-24.

On the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend (May 27), DAI will be a sponsor for a Tribute to Wounded Warriors event hosted by BeethovenFound. Held at the Great Meadow Event Center in The Plains, VA, the event will feature hundreds of instrumentalists and singers in an all-star symphony orchestra, additional guest performers, and an air show, antique car show and softball tournament. Visit us at the DAI tent!

We're looking forward to participating in the FAA National Small Business and IT Shared Services Partnership & Training Conference, July 16-19, at the Taj Mahal Conference Center in Atlantic City, NJ. This event brings together the small business, procurement, IT and private sector communities for a week of targeted training and networking opportunities. DAI will be hosting booth 209 so please stop by and see us!
