HR Academy's HR2U Program Begins in DC

On February 13 in Washington, DC, DVA's HR Academy launched a new initiative, "HR2U," aimed at bringing HR information, tools and training to DVA HR professionals around the country. DAI supported the communications effort promoting the event, including developing promotional emails, marketing collateral and a treatment script for an HR2U promotional video shot at the event.

Welcome to the February edition!

With the Department of Veterans Affairs' (DVA) VA for Vets officially underway, we thought we would share with you a little more about the initiative and DAI's role in supporting it. Additionally, the Department's ongoing HR Academy kicked off an effort this month to bring HR services directly to the DVA HR professionals who need them. We're also bringing back our "DAI Tips" column this month, focusing on effective performance management systems. Thank you for supporting the DAI Advisor, and remember, past editions can always be accessed on our archive page.

VA for Vets Supports the President's Employment Initiative to Hire Veterans

Last month, we highlighted the Veteran Career Fair and Expo. This month, we provide more information about the program and DAI's role.

VA for Vets
is DVA's response to President Obama's Veterans Employment Initiative. Veterans face two barriers to finding careers in the federal government: first, translating and marketing their skills and experience gained during military service into language that civilian employers can understand and second, navigating the federal hiring process. From military skills translation and professional development to career counseling and dynamic job searches, VA for Vets offers an integrated high tech/high touch solution tailored to the specific career needs of each Veteran.

Through VA for Vets, Veterans can:

  • Take online assessments to identify interests, aptitude and best fit careers
  • Translate military skills and experience and be matched to open DVA jobs
  • Build a federal civilian resume using plain English
  • Search for available positions within DVA
  • Access comprehensive career discovery tools and support
  • Speak to a career coach to help with resume building and job searches
  • Connect with DVA employees to learn about their perspectives on serving at DVA
