"February and March have been a hectic travel time for me fulfilling my role as Trustee of Antony Tudor's Estate, Board Member of the Paul Taylor Dance Company, and other dance related business.
From New York I traveled to Indianapolis, arriving in time for Butler University's dress rehearsal of its mid-winter dance program. Included in the program was Antony Tudor's "Dark Elegies," staged by Donald Mahler, Senior Repetiteur of the Tudor Trust. What an eye opener for me! Butler has a very strong dance program with talented choreographers on staff and lovely dancers. Each of the Mahler "Kindertotenlieder" songs one though five was danced with incredible reserve and great intelligence. Each and every dancer in the program showed a level of depth I have rarely seen before.

 | It was after seeing this performance of "Dark Elegies," I knew I was on the right track: developing a Tudor Syllabus for university dance programs is a MUST; a priority at present, and, most important for the future of Antony Tudor and his great ballets. I hope there is a DVD of Butler's performance we can use as part of our syllabus."

The Antony Tudor Ballet Trust, in honor of the late choreographer's 100th birthday, proudly presented "The Antony Tudor Centennial Celebration" jointly with The Juilliard School at Lincoln Center on March 29 & 30, 2008.
The weekend brought together generations of dancers, writers and others who were touched by the life of Tudor. "Having recently returned from Butler University where I staged Dark Elegies and having now a short breather before heading out again, I have been thinking a great deal about what Mr. Tudor's works mean to me and what I have experienced working on them with so many of today's dancers.
In rehearsals I often find myself unable to speak just from watching his marvelous works unfold. Who could fail to be moved deeply, for example, by the Pas de Deux in Dark Elegies or the final duo in Pillar of Fire, with its expression of love and compassion? I remember once when having completed Echoing of Trumpets, we had the first run thru in the studio. As the last note of music faded to silence, everyone in the room - the dancers, ballet mistress, artistic director, management and I - were in tears! Why? Because Mr. Tudor understood... "
