FAQs | Question: My son came home and said he missed a Spirit Day! How do we find out about those?
Answer: Spirit Days are voted monthly by the Student Council Association (SCA). They usually have signs around the school, but you still have time to plan for the October Spirit Day which is the ever-popular Wacky Hair Day on Friday, October 26.
Check out our FAQs section on the website and send any questions to Ask Chester and we'll answer them here and/or on the website.

Family Directory Updates
| This year we are trying a new strategy with our Family Directory. We are going to use the information from the registration materials you have on file with the school, except for those who have already opted out through FCPS. If you have different information than is on file, you should email it to directory@chesterbrookpta.org. A few reasons for information being different include:
- You've moved (in which case you need to notify the school immediately anyway).
- You have a work email on file that is fine for emergencies, but don't want to use it for playdate planning.
- Dad's work phone is listed and he doesn't have any business planning a playdate -- sorry dads who are perfectly able to! -- and you'd like not to list it.
So you may add or delete emails and cell phones as necessary, or provide any other updates you'd like. If you have already opted out with the school, you may still provide us any amount of information you would like printed in the Directory.
We hope this will be a simpler system, both for the volunteers who create the Directory and to get the Directory in your hands sooner than in the past. Thank you for your cooperation!

We are also collecting the following new school supply items:
- Jumbo glue sticks;
- Colored pencils and crayons;
- Index cards;
- Binders, preferably 1 inch;
- Pink erasers;
- Pencils and pencil sharpeners; and

Library Shelvers Needed
| Thanks to everyone who has already signed up, but we still need more volunteers to assist in the library this year. Volunteers help our school librarian, Marsha Moseley, by shelving books so her time can be used teaching our children. A shelving shift typically takes about an hour. However, whatever time you can spend would be helpful.
With the increase in new students this year, the number of books to shelve each shift will grow too so your help is really appreciated! It's also a great way to see what other kids are reading and help your children find something new to try. Keep in mind when signing up that it's easier to remember when a consistent time and day is on the calendar (i.e. every Thurs am or every other Thurs am). Sign up HERE. Questions? Contact Robin Birchfield.

Grocery Card Registration Still Low!
|
Register your Giant Bonus Card, Safeway Club Card and Harris Teeter VIC Cards to save money on your grocery bill and help the PTA earn several thousand dollars that these grocery stores contribute directly to Chesterbrook Elementary School. Simply re-designate your cards in the beginning of the year by filling out the forms from the Back to School Folders or follow the directions below to designate the card yourself:
Giant A+ BonusBucks: Visit Giant Food for details or sign up directly on the Giant A+ registration webpage. Our school code is 01990. If you do not know your 12-digit Giant Bonus Card number, please call 1-877-366-2668 and they will set it up for you.
Safeway Club/eScrip: View Safeway's eScrip website for details or sign up directly on the eScrip registration page. Our eScrip Group ID is 6617193. If you do not know your 11-digit Safeway Club Card number, please call 1-877-723-3929. Out-of-area grandparents can participate, too; eScrip has affiliates in most states.
Harris Teeter Together in Education: Visit Harris Teeter to learn more about the program and designate your VIC card to Chesterbrook here. Our school code is 5137. Call 1-800-432-6111, option 3, if you do not know the first eleven digits of your Harris Teeter VIC number. For more information or if you need help registering, contact the VP of Membership, Maryam Redjaee. This is really great money for us and we far fewer cards registered than last year.
While you are thinking about free money, we also are an Amazon affiliate, which means that a portion of each purchase comes back to the school when you begin your shopping at our Amazon link, which is also on our website. Bookmark it! And keep saving those Box Tops--due date is October 19!

Book Fair Volunteers Needed
| Our Fall Book Fair is right around the corner - Friday, October 19th to Friday, October 26th. Note the earlier time frame this year so we can avoid the crazy Halloween week! Volunteer shifts are generally in one and 1/2 hour increments, but please sign up for multiple shifts if you can. The morning of Thursday, Oct.18th is set-up and after school on Friday, Oct. 26th is pack-up. Keeping with the tradition of previous years, we will have two evening events from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday, Oct. 23rd (Dress As Your Favorite Book Character Night) and Thursday, Oct. 25th (Pajama Night, with milk and cookies and storytelling from our very own Marsha Moseley!). Have a child looking for service hours? We welcome middle school volunteers to help out with pack up and the evening events. Please note the middle school student's name in the "comments" section of the signup. To sign up, visit our Sign Up Genius HERE. Questions? Contact Marsha Camp or Beth Stewart. Thank you for volunteering! You can also find our Pre-Order Form for the #7 book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series HERE. Orders are due October 19 to receive the book on its release day November 13 (not during the Book Fair itself). |
Lavender's Online Orders | It's not too late to place an order online! If you can't find the Lavender's catalog, that's okay as you can shop without it online at www.shoplavenders.com! Lavender's is a local, family-owned business which has great gifts, high-quality gift wrap, holiday wreaths, food, coffee and much more. Check it out www.shoplavenders.com! 50% of the proceeds will benefit the Chesterbrook PTA. Online orders will be delivered directly to your house (order for $75 or more is eligible for free shipping). Be sure to include Chesterbrook's Program ID: 123379300. Questions?
