FAQs
Question: I have one child in the AAP Level IV program, one child in the regular curriculum, and one who might be in Level IV next year. I am really confused about how the curriculum change will affect us. How and when can I learn more about the change mentioned last month?

Answer:  Good question! Chester has had lots of these and is a bit confused himself. Mr. Fuqua has set up an informational meeting about the curriculum change after the next PTA meeting on Tuesday, March 6 at 10 am. Please plan to come and bring all your questions. Mrs. Vallath, our lead teacher for AAP, will be on hand to discuss the differences between the AAP and general education curricula as well. Mark your calendars!

Check out our new FAQs section on the website for more as the year goes on. Send any questions to  Ask Chester and we'll answer them here and/or on the website.

Online Auction
gavelOur annual online Auction has opened--check it out at our Bidding for Good Auction site. Have you looked at the auction recently? There are still lots of new items being added!  Register to bid and encourage others to register. Need an incentive?  Everyone who sends an email to 10 people or more will be eligible to participate in a drawing for a $25 gift card to J Gilbert's.  Click on REFER A FRIEND to get started. Many of our items are not McLean-centric, so tell friends and family members around the country.

You can still donate at item or procure a donation--all you need is a Donor Form. If you have questions, contact Julia Nelson.

This is our biggest fundraiser and allows us to fund our several big projects like technology upgrades, gym floor, and track enhancements, plus many smaller activities.

Summer Quest Registration Begins Thursday
SummerQuest
The 2012 Summer Quest camps have been released, and you can find them HERE. We have had to move a couple camps around, so please review your options before Thursday! This year camp runs from July 9 for 4 weeks through August 3. Again we have morning and afternoon sessions (children registered for both may bring a lunch) and after camp fun to make a full-day. Cost is $130 per session, plus listed supply fee. The reference chart lists camps by week, with morning (9 am-12pm) or afternoon (1-4 pm), grade levels (rising K through rising 7), camp name, and supply fee. The full program adds a description for each camp. Registration will begin on February 23 at 7 pm on the PTA website.

Camp is open to all students regardless of school attending. Please note that because we opted not to password-protect our website, registration is open to ANYONE on the first day. Also, Summer Quest information is available on our Business Friend CampEasy's website this year, so we will have much more publicity and families all over the area can access our information. Chesterbrook students DO NOT get priority placement, so register early! The CampEasy site can help you sort through the Summer Quest options for your multiple kids' interests around your vacation schedule. Get ready for some summer fun!  More information about registration can be found on our website.
Fun Fair is Around the Corner
Fun Fair CrestSave the Date! The Chesterbrook Fun Fair will take place on Saturday, March 10th. We're very excited about this year's Renaissance Theme.

Come immerse yourself in carnival games, jump on multiple moon bounces, win a gourmet cupcake at the cupcake walk, get your face painted, win a game or activity through the teacher raffle, and try your luck at the amazing class basket raffle.  There will be a lot of fun on the agenda!  Activities will run from 10 am to 2 pm.  Finish off the day with other bounce fun derbyChesterbrook families enjoying delicious treats while raffle winners are announced in the cafeteria.  This is an event not to be missed!

We hope you'll donate gently used books and stuffed animals in good condition that your children have outgrown for our musical chairs. This was very successful and fun last year.  Any books not claimed as prizes will be donated to a local school in need.  Starting just after President's Day, you can drop off books and stuffed animals in the box across from Chesterbrook library.  Thank you!

Ways to participate this year:
  • Volunteer for a shift (or two) via Fun Fair Parent Sign Up Genius instead of through room parents this year. We need almost 150 volunteers and hope one parent from every family will signup. We also need many Middle School Volunteers--it's the best service opportunity around!
  • Order your all-day wristbands or tickets HERE or through Thursday envelopes this week
  • Donate an item for the Class Basket Raffle, suggestions for your grade(s) are HERE
  • Bake some wonderful goodies for the Bake Sale, suggestions for your grade(s) are HERE
  • Buy Teacher, Basket and Special Raffle Tickets
  • Show up March 10th and have fun!
If you would like to get more involved in the Fun Fair, there are several lead positions that will be open next year. Please contact us if you are interested in shadowing a lead position this year so you can lead in 2013.  It is a fun way to get involved and meet people in our school!
