What no FAQ this week? There must be something someone doesn't know about or understand. Keep sending questions...or if you want to submit anonymously, you may leave in the PTA box in the office in an envelope labeled "Ask Chester -- FAQs." Thanks!
Check out our new FAQs section on the website for more as the year goes on. Send any questions to Ask Chester and we'll answer them here and/or on the website.

International Night
| International Night is coming back Friday, February 3, 6 - 7:30 pm! International Night is a delicious and fun event to celebrate the wide variety of cultures represented at Chesterbrook. Last year we had every inhabited continent except Australia represented, so let's see if we can get them ALL this year!
You can sign-up on our International Night Sign-up Genius to represent a country. It might be where you are from, where your ancestors lived, or even just a place you adore. Then you can pick some munchies representing your country (homemade or store-bought) and select items to put on a display board that we'll provide with the country name and a map. The rest is blank for you to fill in as you like. Photos, local currency, clothing, songs, facts and figures...there is no wrong or right for what goes on the backboard. The only requirement is that it be something about your country! If you participated last year, we saved the boards, so feel free to re-use them!
Each country will be assigned its own table and provided paper plates and napkins. Feel free to bring tablecloths, addtional set up and display items, forks/spoons, etc. It can be as elaborate or simple as you like. Paper cups and water will also be available for all participants.
We will need an event crew of 6 people (teens welcome, but we'd like at least 1 adult to supervise) to help with set-up, general tasks during the event and clean-up/break down after the event.
Questions? Contact Nancy Stuckwisch, International Night Committee Chair.

Storytelling Night
| Mark Your Calendar for this Smart and Fun Family Event: A Storytelling Evening with Jim Weiss
Chesterbrook families and friends are invited to this special event, brought to you by our PTA, Friday, February 10 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Chesterbrook Elementary School cafeteria. You may want to bring a blanket or towel to sit on.
Jim Weiss is a renowned, award-winning story-teller whose "ear for dramatic tension, versatility in creating characters and flawless storyteller's rhythms work magic... even adults will find it difficult not to be caught up in the spell." Hearing well-told stories can ultimately help with reading comprehension as a child learns the structure of stories and develops the listening skills associated with hearing a story told or read aloud. At our storytelling event, Jim will tell several stories designed to entertain and appeal to kids of all ages.
We hope you and your family can join us for an evening of engaging stories and community fun!

Arlington Family Network Presents: Future Planning for Families with Special Needs Students |
We've been asked to include the following announcement from the Arlington Family Network.
- What financial issues and plans should a parent or guardian of a child with special needs consider?
- What tax saving strategies are there for families with medical issues, and what can I deduct this year?
- What are the legal and financial issues I need to consider as my child transitions out of High School?
Please join us on Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 7:00 - 8:30 pm at Washington-Lee High School for a presentation by Christopher Waddell. A question and answer period will follow. Christopher Waddell is an Arlington parent and co-founder of the Arlington County Special Needs PTA (SEPTA). He is a certified financial planner, business owner, and father of three (two special needs children). He has dedicated his career to providing financial education and guidance on elder care and for families with loved ones with special needs. His past experiences, personal knowledge, and professional expertise on the issues have enabled him to make a difference in the financial needs of multi-generational families. He has served in this business in Northern Virginia for more than two decades. Christopher regularly appears in national and local media, including Money Magazine, Business Week, CNBC, Comcast CNN, Financial Planning magazine, and Money Magazine. Christopher was nominated for the Investment News Community Service Award by Raymond James Financial Services. He is past president of the Autism Society of America Northern Virginia Chapter. REACH | REACH (Resource Enrichment at Chesterbrook) has been extended from 20 minute to 30 minute blocks this school year. REACH (available for grades 1-6) has added some new opportunities like working in the gardens to enrich our students' environmental awareness. Due to extended time and more activities, REACH is looking for parent volunteers. If interested, please contact Bethany Brooks, the in-school coordinator, or your Homeroom teacher.
