FAQs | Q: What is a Principal's Coffee?
A: Mr. Fuqua started the Principal's Coffees last year as a way to reach out to parents to discuss both specific topics and anything that comes up. Last year we covered technology in the school, a tour of the school including our "new" trailers, special education, and school counseling services.
And on this Thursday from 9 - 10 am, we'll be meeting with our new Chinese teachers to hear about our program. This is the first opportunity many of us have had to learn firsthand about the innovative program offered at Chesterbrook. We'll be meeting in the open pod outside the cafeteria. Plus, there's coffee! Hope you can join us with questions about the Chinese program...or anything else!
Check out our new FAQs section on the website for more as the year goes on. Send any questions to Ask Chester and we'll answer them here and/or on the website.

Chesterbrook PTA Weekly Digest
No. 14, December 12, 2011
Hope everyone isn't too busy to read some important updates below! Of significant note, Supervisor Foust has agreed to attend our January PTA meeting to discuss traffic on Kirby Road. Thank you Michele Pearce for reaching out and leading the charge! To accommodate Supervisor Foust's busy schedule, we have moved our meeting from a Tuesday morning to a Thursday evening, January 12, at 7 pm. Please plan to attend as our children and our safety is of utmost importance. We've heard lately of more and more near-misses on our streets!
Here's what's ahead:
- Principal's Coffee, 12/15, 9-10 am, open pod
- Spirit Day, 12/16, Wacky Day
- Winter Break, 12/23/11 - 1/2/12 (note that Thursday, Dec. 22 is a full day and school is open on Tuesday, Jan. 3)

Before- and After-School Activity Registration
| Registration for January sessions of before and after school activities will be held January 10th at 7 pm on the PTA website. Details on the new sessions of Fitness Warriors, Drama, Yoga, Science Enrichment, Girls on the Run, and the Newspaper Club are on the website now and will be coming home in Thursday folders as well. We heard your feedback from the fall registration and are making a few changes, including a later start time, and you will be able to fill out the emergency contact form after you have completed registration and payment. All payments must be made during registration via PayPal. If you completed an emergency contact form for a fall session, you will be able to re-use that form as long as you do not need to update any of the information. All of the other after school activities are full year programs and will not have a new registration in January. Fitness Warriors and Science Enrichment will also have spring sessions with a separate registration in March or April. Please email the After School Activities Chair if you have any questions.

It's Cold!
| "Mom, it's cold outside and we probably won't have recess today, so I don't need my hat!" More than likely he just can't find his hat, and more than likely he will have recess. Recess is cancelled only when temperatures are 32 degrees or below or the windchill is 25 degrees or below. Please send your children appropriately dressed and label all outerwear! And if he's lost his hat (or anything else), please go check the Lost and Found in the cafeteria. There are 3 big bags of items, plus the regular cabinet, waiting to be donated. Once they're gone, they're gone.
Also, don't forget our Inclement Weather closing schedule (for Mondays as well):
- 2-hour late opening: 10:40 am - 3:20 pm
- 2-hour early closing: 8:40 am -1:20 pm

Chesterbrook Friends
| Our Friends of Chesterbrook fundraising program is growing and we have new Friends to thank this week:
- The Redjaee Family (Silver level)
- The Cole Family (Bronze level)
You or your business can still participate! Read our flyer here or visit our website. We had 30 families and businesses join last year, and we hope many more of you will join this year. Spread the word! If you have questions or would like to get involved, contact Bob Nelson. |
Family Directory | Don't forget that the school has made a PDF of the recently completed Family Directory available online through Blackboard. Here's how to access it:- Login using your Parent View account or your child's account.
- Click on (one of) the student name(s). If you are using your student's account, you will skip this.
- Click on "Chesterbrook Specialists," not the student's grade level.
- You'll find the Family Directory under "Parent Resources" at the bottom of the lefthand menu. We plan to update this periodically, so if you find something in error (sorry!), contact the Directory Committee.

REACH | REACH (Resource Enrichment at Chesterbrook) has been extended from 20 minute to 30 minute blocks this school year. REACH (available for grades 1-6) has added some new opportunities like working in the gardens to enrich our students' environmental awareness. Due to extended time and more activities, REACH is looking for parent volunteers. If interested, please contact Bethany Brooks, the in-school coordinator, or your Homeroom teacher.
