| FAQs | Q: I'm guessing that the subject of the throw-away trays at the Chesterbrook cafeteria comes up quite a bit right after the annual Thanksgiving lunches. It seems like a lot of waste and a poor lesson for the kids. Is there anything else we can do?
A: Chester inquired about those seemingly environmentally unfriendly trays, and it turns out that the trays are recycled by the county (though perhaps not in the rush of our Thanksgiving luncheon). They are collected in a separate trash can and collected by county employees. There is a poster in the cafeteria ("where in the world does my pink tray go?") above the tray trash can that explains the process to the kids: the trays are recycled to produce energy for 75,000 homes.
The County has also addressed similar parent suggestions for reusable trays with a message that the cost and environmental impact of the washing and storing of such trays is equal to that of the pink tray alternative.

Ask your kids about the science assembly last week put on by the Maryland Science Center. Thanks to Tiffany Albrecht for bringing it to us once again. And big thanks to the Gralla family for once again printing our Family Directory!

| Family Directory |  The Family Directory was distributed in last Thursday's envelopes to all PTA members and anyone who purchased additional copies. Directories went home in the youngest child's envelope. If you did not receive one, please check your records first ("Order History" for your account on our website, PayPal history, or credit card statement). If you did not yet join the PTA or purchase a directory, you may still do so on our website, and we will speed a directory right to you. You may also still purchase an additional copy there. If you believe you didn't receive your copy in error, please contact Maryam Redjaee and she can check your membership status.
We are also pleased to announce that the school has made a PDF of the Family Directory available online through Blackboard. Here's how to access it:- Login using your Parent View account or your child's account.
- Click on (one of) the student name(s). If you are using your student's account, you will skip this.
- Click on "Chesterbrook Specialists," not the student's grade level.
- You'll find the Family Directory under "Parent Resources" at the bottom of the lefthand menu. We plan to update this periodically, so if you find something in error (sorry!), contact the Directory Committee.

 Chesterbrook Friends
| Our Friends of Chesterbrook fundraising program launched for 2011-2012, and we already have new Friends! See links to our Business Friends at left. You should have received a special email inviting  you and/or your business to join and additional information in your Thursday folder. If you missed the email, then check it out here or visit our website. We had 30 families and businesses join last year, and we hope many more of you will join this year. Spread the word! Turkey Trot
| The Health and Gardens committee is holding the 2nd Annual Chesterbrook Turkey Trot on Wednesday, November 23rd. A Turkey Trot is a school-wide event where each grade level comes out and sprints, jogs, or walks around the track for a 30 minute block of time. It is an event which is very successful in promoting healthy lifestyles to kids.  Parents are welcome to join in this year, but please check in at the office first. The schedule is as follows:- 9:00 am - 6th grade
- 9:15 - K-Wynne and K-Jorgensen
- 9:30 am - 5th grade
- 10:00 am - 1st grade
- 10:30 am - 3rd grade
- 11:00 am - 2nd grade, K-Strong, K-Pursley
- 11:30 am - 4th grade
If the weather doesn't cooperate, the event will be cancelled. And don't forget that there's a 2 hour early release at 1:20 pm that day.

| REACH | REACH (Resource Enrichment at Chesterbrook) has been extended from 20 minute to 30 minute blocks this school year. REACH (available for grades 1-6) has added some new opportunities like working in the gardens to enrich our students' environmental awareness. Due to extended time and more activities, REACH is looking for parent volunteers. If interested, please contact Bethany Brooks, the in-school coordinator.
