FAQs
Q: Do all parents go to the Thanksgiving lunch? What is pumpkin surprise?

A: Many, many parents will come to school on Friday for our annual Thanksgiving lunch (and many of them will volunteer to set-up, serve, or cleanup), but not all. Don't forget that if parents can't come, other caregivers or family members (lunch with grandma?) can come instead. Students without "dates" can sit with friends' parents or other friends, or sometimes even a teacher! As for pumpkin surprise, well, Chester isn't quite sure what exactly it is, but he knows he likes it!

Also, while you're there, take a peek through the Lost and Found in the hallway outside the cafeteria--it's starting to pile up again!

Check out our new FAQs section on the website for more as the year goes on. Send any questions to  Ask Chester and we'll answer them here and/or on the website.

Thanksgiving Lunch, Friday, November 11
Mark your calendars now and plan to join your Chesterbrook child on Friday, Nov. 11th, Veteran's Day,  for our annual Thanksgiving Lunch. You should have received a letter and ticket order form in the mail (from Chesterbrook School) which will note your child's scheduled time for lunch. We appreciate it when you buy the tickets in advance, as it allows cafeteria staff to better plan for the event, but tickets will be available at the door as well.

Many hands are necessary to make this lunch an enjoyable event for everyone and it's a great opportunity to put meaning into the "giving" part of the holiday. Please sign up to help HERE. If you have any questions, please contact Kim Johnson or (703) 220-7456.

While you're at school, please check the Lost and Found in the hall outside the cafeteria. It's piling up already!

Homework Made Simple Presentation
homework made simplePlease join us at our next PTA meeting, Thursday, November 17 at 7 p.m. to hear Ann Dolin, M.Ed of Educational Connections discuss her book Homework Made Simple: Tips, Tools, and Solutions for Stress-Free Homework

Ms. Dolin is a former Fairfax County public school teacher with over 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience. In her book, she reveals the core problems that commonly lead to homework stress and offers 100 proven solutions to parents to tackle each situation.

We hope to see many of you at what's sure to be an insightful event.

Chesterbrook Friends
Our Friends of Chesterbrook fundraising program launches for 2011-2012 this week! You should have received a special email inviting you and/or your business to join and will receive additional information in your Thursday folder. If you missed the email, then check it out here or visit our website. We had 30 families and businesses join last year, and we hope many more of you will join this year. Spread the word! If you have questions or would like to get involved, contact Bob Nelson.
Fall Book Fair Wrap-Up
booksThanks to everyone who volunteered, visited, and made purchases at our Fall Book Fair. If you placed orders for out of stock items, they should be delivered to your child's classroom in the next few days. Wimpy Kid orders will come in on DATE. Questions? Contact Marsha Camp

Spirit Wear
LAST CHANCE! We understand some Thursday envelopes did not go out on Thursday with the final order form. All orders must come in on Wednesday! Forms may be downloaded here. We again are offering the navy t-shirt, the grey hooded sweatshirt and the car magnet (shown at left).  We also are offering a new pink t-shirt (with car magnetthe same design as the navy t-shirt) and navy polo shirts - just like those you may have seen the staff wear. Color images of the designs may be seen here. Delivery is expected by December 1st. If you have any questions, please contact Kate Garcia.
Family Directory
The Family Directory is coming soon. All PTA members will receive a free copy of the Directory, but if you would like an additional copy, you can order one for $5. Nonmembers can purchase a Directory for $8...or just go ahead and join the PTA for $10 (single) or $20 (family). You may purchase additional directories or memberships on our website.
Candy Collection
Don't let that leftover Halloween Candy go to waste...or waist! Donate your leftover candy to the Fun Fair to fill the "Guess-timates" jars. Last year we saved our entire budget line item! Drop off any wrapped goodies in the drop box in the main office now through November 11. Thanks for your help! Questions: contact the Fun Fair Chairs, Trisha Downey and Kim Johnson.
Book Drive

If you are clearing out some of your old books, in anticipation of buying great new ones at the Chesterbrook Book Fair, why not donate them to kids in need?  Girl Scouts from Troop 3579 are working on a special project to collect books for Graham Road Elementary School.  They would love to receive new (maybe bought at the Book Fair?) or gently used books appropriate for elementary school kids.  Since Graham Road has a Head Start program, even preschool-aged books would be useful.  There will be a box outside the Chesterbrook library for your donations. If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Raymond

Collecting Recyclables

The Art room is in need of materials to use as paint containers and for storage of art materials. If you have any of the following recyclable items, please send them to the Art room: yogurt

  • Clean baby food jars
  • gallon ice cream buckets
  • 6oz. plastic yogurt containers (no Yoplait or Chobani)
