FAQs
Q: What is this Book Fair Wish List my child brought home? Do I have to buy all these books? Can I send in money with my kindergartner?

A: Each class has an opportunity to wander through the book fair, and students makes lists of books (and prices) to bring home. Younger students have adult volunteers to help them. Whether you have to buy all of them depends on who you ask--certainly, your child will say "Yes!" You may send in cash or a check to Chesterbrook PTA (no taxes added), or you may come into the Fair yourself, either during the day, during the evening events Tuesday and Wednesday, or during the teacher conference day next Monday (not Tuesday, that's pack up day). Credit cards are accepted onsite.

Check out our new FAQs section on the website for more as the year goes on. Send any questions to  Ask Chester and we'll answer them here and/or on the website.

Fall Book Fair is Here
Our Fall Book Fair began today and runs through Monday, November 7.books

After previewing the selections during the first couple days, students make "wish lists" to bring home. Teachers also have wish lists prepared if parents would like to donate a selection from their child to his/her classroom library. In addition to books, there are educational books and games, puzzles and toys, and even popular adult selections.

Schedule:

Monday, 10/31, class previews, 8:15 am - 1 pm

Tuesday, 11/1, previews, 8:15 am - 3 pm AND shopping 3 - 8 pm AND Dress as Favorite Book Character, 6 - 8 pm, cider and treats, prizes for costumes

Wednesday, 11/2, shopping 8:15 am - 8 pm AND Pajama Night, 6 - 8 pm, milk and cookies and bedtime stories with Mrs. Moseley.

Thursday, 11/3, Friday, 11/4, Monday 11/7, shopping 8:15 am - 4 pm

Proceeds from the Book Fair are used to supplement the library budget from Fairfax County, which has been cut each of the past several years. Money will be used to purchase books, audio materials, and hopefully several laptops to supplement the computers already in the library, so that an entire class can use the computers in the library simultaneously.

There are still a few volunteer slots: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/chesterbrook9. Questions?  Contact Marsha Camp. Thanks to all our volunteers!

Spirit Wear
We are taking orders now for Chesterbrook Elementary spirit wear. Order forms were sent home in Thursday envelopes or may be downloaded here. We again are offering the navy t-shirt, the grey hooded sweatshirt and the car magnet (shown at left).  We also are offering a new pink t-shirt (with car magnetthe same design as the navy t-shirt) and navy polo shirts - just like those you may have seen the staff wear. Color images of the designs may be seen here.  Orders are due by Friday, November 4th. Delivery is expected by December 1st. If you have any questions, please contact Kate Garcia.
Family Directory
The Family Directory is coming soon. All PTA members will receive a free copy of the Directory, but if you would like an additional copy, you can order one for $5. Nonmembers can purchase a Directory for $8...or just go ahead and join the PTA for $10 (single) or $20 (family). You may purchase additional directories or memberships on our website.
Candy Collection
Don't let that leftover Halloween Candy go to waste...or waist! Donate your leftover candy to the Fun Fair to fill the "Guess-timates" jars. Last year we saved our entire budget line item! Drop off any wrapped goodies in the drop box in the main office now through November 11. Thanks for your help! Questions: contact the Fun Fair Chairs, Trisha Downey and Kim Johnson.
Thanksgiving Lunch, Friday, Nov. 11
Mark your calendars now and plan to join your Chesterbrook child on Friday, Nov. 11th, Veteran's Day,  for our annual Thanksgiving Lunch. You will soon receive a letter and ticket order form in the mail (from Chesterbrook School) which will note your  child's scheduled time for lunch. We appreciate it when you buy the tickets in advance, as it allows cafeteria staff to better plan for the event, but tickets will be available at the door, as well.

Many hands are necessary to make this lunch an enjoyable event for everyone and it's a great opportunity to put meaning into the "giving" part of the holiday. Please sign up to help HERE. If you have any questions, please contact Kim Johnson or (703) 220-7456.

Book Drive

If you are clearing out some of your old books, in anticipation of buying great new ones at the Chesterbrook Book Fair, why not donate them to kids in need?  Girl Scouts from Troop 3579 are working on a special project to collect books for Graham Road Elementary School.  They would love to receive new (maybe bought at the Book Fair?) or gently used books appropriate for elementary school kids.  Since Graham Road has a Head Start program, even preschool-aged books would be useful.  There will be a box outside the Chesterbrook library for your donations. If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Raymond

Collecting Recyclables

The Art room is in need of materials to use as paint containers and for storage of art materials. If you have any of the following recyclable items, please send them to the Art room: yogurt

  • Clean baby food jars
  • gallon ice cream buckets
  • 6oz. plastic yogurt containers (no Yoplait or Chobani)
Grocery Cards, Etc.
Giant A Bonus Bucks Thanks to everyone who has registered or sent in their numbers. We earned more in September than some prior years! Thanks to Maryam Redjaee for her long hours and tedious data entry work!

You can still redesignate your cards in several ways:
  • When you join the PTA online, the form asks for your card numbers for each store.
  • You may email your numbers with store names to Maryam Redjaee, our VP of Membership.
  • You may register your numbers yourself through our website.
Safeway/Escrip will be sending an email based on information you submitted to us; please open it and click on Renew to complete the process.

While you are thinking about free money, we also are an Amazon affiliate, which means that a portion of each purchase comes back to the school when you begin your shopping at http://chesterbrookpta.org/amazonchesterbrook.aspx, which is also on our website. Bookmark it!
