The Friday Digest Pertinent Points for the Week Ahead from the Chesterbrook PTA |
|
Thank you to Marsha Camp, Beth Lord, and everyone who helped with and purchased books and other items at the Book Fair. It was another great success in fundraising this year! All proceeds return to the media center to purchase instructional materials, new books, additional copies of well-loved books, and other materials. Special thanks to Beth Lord who has so ably managed the book fair for many, many years and oversaw it's transition to accepting credit cards, managing the stock electronically, and adding the spring fair. We'll miss you Beth!
All spring pictures, individual and class, should have come home by now. If you didn't receive yours, check first with your teacher and then the office. Thank you also to everyone who donated school supplies and books for our School Outreach program! |
Register for Kindergarten
Full Day Kindergarten is here! Chesterbrook is looking forward to its youngest students staying all day, but they need to know how many are coming. Please stop by the school to register your child(ren) as soon as possible and BEFORE the school year ends June 21st and let your friends and neighbors know too. The registration system closes for part of the summer when the school year ends. It will greatly help the office staff to have everyone registered before that time. You'll need a birth certificate and proof of residency (health form not needed until just prior to the start of school). Questions? Contact kinders@chesterbrookpta.org. |
Register for Summer Quest
Families are still signing up--thank you! We have had some camps re-open with a slot or 2 due to cancellations (partial refunds are offered for cancellations which result in a below-minimum enrollment ONLY if the spot is filled by another camper), so please check back to see what is available. Please send in to the school office your emergency form if you haven't already. And if you did receive notice about a cancellation, please contact summerquest@chesterbrookpta.org as soon as possible so we can place you in another camp. We don't want to lose anyone! Please visit the Chesterbrook PTA website at www.chesterbrookpta.org for more information and register now.

Review Budget Amendments
All PTA members, which is pretty much all of you, are invited to attend the PTA meeting immediately preceding the Band Concert on June 14 at 7 pm. Our general membership will vote on a budget amendment to fund our portion of the gym floor renovation (shared with McLean Youth Basketball). We will also be voting on a budget amendment to allocate funds to install an outdoor volleyball court adjacent to the soccer fields, as well as voting on our new slate of officers. Please review the attached Budget Amendment Proposal for both amendments and let Laurie Plishker know if you have any questions or concerns.

Get Ready for Longfellow
The Start to Success Program is a 2-day workshop at Longfellow to get to know the school, meet other students, and gain some skills to help in their classes. Students will learn from Longfellow teachers as well as current Longfellow students. Dates: August 22/23 for Session 1 or August 24/25 for Session 2. The application is available online, at http://www.fcps.edu/LongfellowMS/pages/STSAPP_2011.pdf. The deadline is June 13th, and a registration fee of $35 is required. |
Donate Used School Supplies
Again this year we are collecting gently and slightly used school supplies to send to needy children in Nicaragua. Items can be placed in the box marked "Nicaragua" outside the Media Center through the first 2 weeks of summer. Please tear out used pages of notebooks. Contact Ann-Marie Turnage for more information. |
