Help for Haiti: Learn What You Can Do
Results of PTA Meeting Voting
Thanks everyone for voting on the ballot and budget items on the agenda this past Tuesday.  As a result, I'm pleased to report that: 
  • The 2010-2011 Chesterbrook PTA Executive Officers were approved:  Laurie Plishker, President; Candace Stromberg, VP, Fundraising; Kate Garcia, Secretary; Laura Przypyszny, Treasurer.  Gina Manning will continue as the Vice President, membership.
  • $15,000 Budget Amendment approved for competing the Ceiling-Mounted Projector Project.
  • $2,000 Budget Amendment approved to start the History Timeline Mural for the Library.  The first panel of the timeline will be revealed during the Awards Ceremony next Thursday.

Clean Out Your Desk AND Help Needy Kids In Nicaragua
Ann-Marie Turnage is collecting gently used school supplies for needy Nicaraguan school children.  The collection point is outside the library. The collection ends on Thursday, July 8.

PTA Opportunities for 2010-2011 School Year
Are you interested in getting more involved in school and PTA Activities? The PTA needs your help with for the coming year! Running a committee is a terrific way to learn more about what's going on at school and meet other parents. If you have interests in other areas, please contact Laurie Plishker lplishker@gmail.com so you can get connected to the right opportunity.
 
Website Editor: Maintains and updates PTA website. Together with relevant PTA chairs, prepares and posts articles, calendar of events, webforms, etc. For more information please email president@chesterbrook.org
 
Computers & Technology Chair: Serves as webmaster for PTA website, adds functionality, troubleshoots problems. Chair should be familiar with or willing to learn Drupal, SQL, and PHP.
 
Yearbook Co-chairs/Committee: Coordinate the preparation and publication of the yearbook. For more information, please email Candace Stromberg or Eileen Moorhead at yearbook@chesterbrook.org  
 
Gift Catalog Fundraiser Co-Chair: Works with current co-chair to oversee fundraising campaign. For more information please contact Judy Williams at fallfundraiser@chesterbrook.org

Family Fun Movie Night Chair: Coordinates the annual movie night family fun event (typically held at Chesterbrook on a Friday night in February). For more information please contact Janine Gates at j94312@yahoo.com  
 
International Night Chair: Will coordinate proposed, new addition to Chesterbrook's family fun event schedule. International Night will provide an opportunity for students and their families to share something about their heritage with the rest of the Chesterbrook family, including culture, history, customs, food, and/or art. Chess Club Program Co-Manager: Coordinate chess club activities, including overseeing registration, coordinating parent volunteers, maintaining equipment, acting as liaison with school, overseeing club meetings and tournaments, and otherwise assisting Chess Master. Room Parent Coordinator/Co-Coordinator: Recruits, coordinates, and serves as point-of-contact for lead room parents. Supervises solicitation of adult volunteers for Fun Fair and advises on Teacher Appreciation Week activities. For more information please contact president@chesterbrook.org

National PTA Logo National PTA launched its Summer of Learning online toolkit on June 1. The PTA resource includes a calendar of activities as well as fun, extended learning activities every week.

Fairfax County Public Library & FCPS Summer Reading List
Fairfax County logo Last year more than 48,000 children participated in the library's Summer Reading Program. This year's program will run June 21 to Sept. 4. In addition to encouraging children to read throughout the summer and rewarding them with a coupon book full of great prizes, the Summer Reading Program offers fun activities for every age group. Some of the activities include theater stunts, anime drawing and crafts for teens; live animals, magic and a sound effects program for kids ages 6-12.Participants can also enjoy puppets, music and stories for families and young ones. Families can browse online for event details or pick up a copy of the library's newsletter "This Month" at any Fairfax County Public Library branch. New this year, students can register online to participate in the program.

The Summer Reading Program is a cooperative effort between Fairfax County Public Library and Fairfax County Public Schools. The Summer Reading Program is funded through generous donations from the Fairfax Library Foundation and includes $42,500 from the Friends of the George Mason Regional Library and $7,500 from the Friends of the Kings Park Library.

 Does your child have something in the lost and found?

lost and found

Check out the Lost and Found cabinet in the cafeteria before the school year ends.  Its chock full of items (lunchboxes, books, jackets, and even shoes!   Please come claim your lost items!!  Later this summer, anything left will be donated to a local church sale.
