Seussical Jr. at Longfellow MS

Seussical Jr.

This Friday and Saturday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Cafeteria.
Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and all of the Whos of Whoville! The score emerges as a Seussian Gumbo of musical styles, ranging from Latin to pop, swing to gospel, and R&B to funk!  So let your fingers snap, and you're imagination run wild for "Oh, the thinks you can think, When you think about Seuss!"

Time to Help One of Our Own
Michelle Tate's husband -- Michelle is one of our Special Ed. Instructional Assistants -- was in a serious accident over the weekend. Chris Tate's injury requires a lot of blood replacement and whole blood is expensive.  Michelle has asked people to donate blood if possible.  The cost of your donated blood will be deducted from Chris's hospital bill. It doesn't matter what type blood you have, as long as it meets standard medical criteria.  There are two ways to donate blood:
  • Contact the INOVA Blood Donor Center at 1-866-256-6372 to make an appointment. If you have any questions about eligibility to donate blood, (trips out of the country, illnesses, etc.) please contact Pat Freeman at Inova. Her number is 571-434-3628. If you donate, please be sure to give them the name of Christopher Tate and that he is at Fairfax Hospital.
  • There will be a blood mobile at Spring Hill Elementary on June 1st with all the blood to credit Christopher Tate. You can contact Susan Chait by email or phone (703-506-3403).  (Chris's mother teaches at Spring Hill.)
One other thing we can help this young couple with:  Chris is a personal trainer who will be out of work for some time while he recovers. In order to help with the costs of healthcare, a new prosthetic foot, and temporary unemployment, a fund has been set up. All donations go directly to Chris, the PayPal account is in his name and address. As you can imagine, a tragic event like this can be very difficult for a young couple.  Please visit http://www.donate4christate.com/ to help out Chris and Michelle.

Summer Quest 2010Is your child the Class Clown?  Or full of Drama?  Summer Quest has the perfect class for him or her!
Let's Put on a Play is the only full-day Summer Quest class and is offered to rising 4th, 5th and 6th graders during the first week of Summer Quest, July 12-16.
Join Mrs. Moseley, renown Chesterbrook Drama Queen and Theatre major at Northwestern University, for five full days (9:00 AM to 3:30 PM) of Drama Fun.  Your little Brad or Meryl will work on costumes and props; learn how to build a character; act silly and have fun; and, flex their creative muscles!
From casting to performing, your child can have the experience of putting on a show in just one week. Students will act in one or more short plays based on folk tales. Along the way, they will play theater games to learn more about acting.

Oh, to be young again . . . sigh.  (Exit stage right)

    2009-2010 Special Education Parent Survey
All parents of school-aged children and youth who receive special education services in Virginia's schools are encouraged to complete the Department of Education's Annual Parent Involvement Survey. This is a great opportunity for parents to provide input to help guide efforts to improve services and outcomes for their children. Your responses will be kept anonymous and never be personally linked to your child. The results of this survey will be made available to the public.
