Girls on the Run Information:  Spring Session
Girls on the Run (GOTR) is an after-school program that uses the power of running to help prepare girls grades 3 through 5 for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.  Each session is led by trained female coaches who guide and mentor girls using activities like running, playing games, and discussing topics such as dealing with body image and the media, resisting peer pressure, making healthy decisions, and contributing to the community.  Along the way, the girls train together to walk or run in a 5k running event and celebration.

Chesterbrook's GOTR Coaches are Ms. Hauser and Ms. Dillman.  The Chesterbrook GOTR program will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30, beginning in early March and running through mid-May.  The 5k will take place in mid-May. (GOTR of Northern Virginia has not yet set the exact dates.)

Because of the popularity of the GOTR program, an automated lottery system will be used to select up to 20 participants at random for each school's GOTR program.  The online lottery for the Spring 2010 GOTR program will begin on February 6, 2010.  A link to the online lottery system will be posted on the GOTR NOVA web site (www.gotrnova.org) at 7:00 AM on this date.  The registration lottery will be open until February 14 to give everyone ample time to register for the lottery.  The randomly selected participants for each program will be notified via email the week of February 15th; GOTR NOVA will also email those participants not selected.

The fees for the Spring 2010 GOTR program are:
  • Standard fee: $165
  • Families that Qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program: $70 (with the Free and Reduced Lunch Program form)
  • Free and Reduced Lunch Program families with income below $30,000: $17 (with the Free and Reduced Lunch Program form)
  • Additional accommodations can be reached with the Girls on the Run of NOVA Executive Director of the Chesterbrook PTA as needed. No girl is ever turned away due to financial need.

Jurassic Adventure Fun Fair:  Saturday, March 13
 Jurassic Adventure
Save This Date:  Saturday, March 13th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM is the Chesterbrook PTA Fun Fair.
We have . . .
  • Not one, but TWO Moon Bounces (see above)
  • Not one, but TWO Raffles
  • Dance, Dance Revolution
  • Micro Reality Stock Car Racing
  • Arcade Games
  • Facepainting and Tattoos
  • Guesstimates
  • Prizes
  • Food, Popcorn, Cotton Candy Candy
  • AND, MORE!!!

The Fun Fair is a major fundraiser for the PTA, along with the Online Auction
.  It is also the only fundraiser that requires a large team of co-chairs and general volunteers to produce.  The general volunteer requirements are such that each class -- K through 6 -- provides four to six adult volunteers to help with set-up, run arcade games, police the moonbounces, sell tickets and food, and clean-up.  Since we run two two-hour shifts during the Fun Fair, we need 140 adult volunteers to produce a safe and successful Fun Fair.  We also rely on our Chesterbrook alumni network who have moved up to Longfellow MS and McLean HS to return to help run the arcade games.
Look for Room Parent emails in the next few weeks requesting parents to fill general volunteer slots.
Candace Stromberg and Melinda Settles are our Fun Fair Co-Chairs and can be contacted at funfair@chesterbrook.org
