Partnering Up with Gifts of Hope
 | | Amanda |
Christmas was a special time for the staff at Stepping Stones. Our Annual Appeal struck a chord with Audrey, the grandmother of six grandchildren, and she made a special request regarding our need for "gifts of hope."
Audrey wanted her grandchildren to understand that there is hope for the needs of many if we all do our part. She made a donation in the names of her six grandchildren, and in turn, we sent them each a personalized letter with a brief story about which young mother they would be helping at Stepping Stones. We also let them know how the money Audrey donated on their behalf was spent.
For example, in one of the letters we talked about a young mother who was totally isolated. She stayed in her house most of the time and very rarely went out. She wanted to participate in our programs but had no way of getting to them. We used the donation Audrey made, in the name of her grandson Matthew, to purchase bus tickets so Amanda would be able to participate in our programs and better her life.
Audrey's grandchildren opened their "gift of hope" letters on Christmas Eve and the experience turned into a devotional which the family now wants to do every year. Audrey's family and Stepping Stones both benefited from this "gift of hope" and we all got a good glimpse as to the blessings that are bestowed when we all do our part.
To Audrey, and all our other donors, volunteers and prayer warriors who support our programs, we are grateful to you. Stepping Stones belongs to God but we have a stewardship responsibility for its care and effectiveness, and quite honestly, we could not do it without your partnership. Thank you for your support.
Happy New Year and God Bless.

New Staff Member
Our team is growing! Laurel Standerwick is a Youth Unlimited staff candidate and Associate staff member with Stepping Stones. She is working with the Thrive Alumni to ensure they follow through with their goals and is overseeing the mentoring program. Laurel will also be helping with further development of the Thrive program.
We are excited to have Laurel on our team and look forward to the wonderful gifts she brings to our program!
Thrive Alumni
Its been tough working with some of the young moms who just completed the ten week Thrive session. They are feeling a bit lost after graduating, and some of them are struggling to find their way as they transition from a structured classroom setting, and apply newly acquired skills to their daily lives. This phase of Alumni is where the hard work really happens for the young moms. It's a "stepping stone" onto the next stage of their lives as they work through the goals they set in Thrive.
Stepping Stones Mom in NOW Newspaper Article
The NOW did a full page story entitled, "COOKING UP MORE THAN MUFFINS" featuring Brittney, one of our young moms. Brittney grew up in a trailer and was raised in poverty. Her father battled addiction for as long as she can remember, and when her parents split up, her mother focused on her new boyfriends in an attempt to relive her youth.
Brittney is living proof that generational cycles can be broken and she states in the article, "just because you grow up a certain way doesn't mean you can't break the cycle." Brittney also says that she would be on the streets if she hadn't found Stepping Stones. We are thankful that Brittney found us four years ago and extremely proud of her for all she has accomplished in our programs.

Visit Us at People's Church
 | | L to R - Kellie Brown, Cecil Rast, Dan Effa, Dave Morgan and Karen Pearson |
Most of our donors mail in a cheque or use their credit card to make donations towards our progams. It's a rare occasion when people make a donation in person, but on January 10, 2012 Ms. Kim Angel from the Surrey Foundation and Mr. Dan Effa of Liquid Capital Pacific Corporation came out to People's Church and presented us with a cheque in support of the "Stepping Up Young Father's" program. The gift was contributed as a flow-through donation to the Surrey Foundation's Community Grants Campaign. Thank you Surrey Foundation.
After the presentation Mr. Effa stayed to talk and pray with us and we felt blessed to have him there. We encourage all our donors to come out and ask us questions, have a tour of our facility and pray with us. Please contact any member of our team if you would like to visit us at People's Church - we would LOVE to have you visit us.
Join Our Prayer Group
We all attend a regular monthly prayer meeting in the Fleetwood area on the 4th Thursday of each month at 9:15 a.m. If you are interested in joining our prayer group please contact Karen at karen@youthunlimited.com for more details. We would love to have you come out and pray with us. |
The Soroptimist Surrey/Delta club is a dedicated group of women who work within their community to better the lives of girls and women.
In 2011 Soroptimist Surrey/Delta made two generous donations to Stepping Stones. The first cheque was presented at our 3rd Annual fundraiser in February and the second cheque was awarded in the late fall. Thank you Soroptimist Surrey/Delta.
Not only are we grateful for groups like Soroptimist, we are grateful for each and every one of our donors. Some of our partners wish to remain annonymous with the gifts they give us, and others would like to be recognized. You are all a part of our ministry, and if you would like to be mentioned in our newsletter, or have a prayer request, please contact Karen at karen@youthunlimited.com. |
