Our Incredible Journey

cherise and moms

Over the last few months our team experienced many unknowns with the loss of our location. We were unsure of what our future would hold, but we trusted God completely and listened to Him as He led us step by step.

God  took us on an incredible journey and our young parents made the trip with us. They trusted that everything would work out ... and it did. For example, when Dave needed a place for the young fathers to meet, one of the dad's stepped up to the plate and offered his humble home. When we had to move our Drop-In program to the YFC office we thought only a few regular moms would show up ... boy were we wrong! We have had an overflow of young mothers come through our doors and some of them walked for almost an hour just to find us.

We are continuing to work on our new partnership at our new location and we will update you when everything is finalized. Throughout the whole experience we have learned to trust God more then ever and He has answered many of our prayers.

We will keep you posted on our journey, and trust that God will continue to bless our team, volunteers, young families, supporters and partners.

Enjoy the summer!

New "Thrive" Cycle Begins in September

cherise and moms

We are currently in the planning stages of a new cycle of "Thrive" and are excited to see what God is going to do with our new group of participants. We've begun talking about "Thrive" with new young mothers who attend other Stepping Stones program's and are encouraging them to take advantage of this once in a life time opportunity.

It's heartbreaking for us to hear the stories of hurt and the ways young mothers feel trapped in their lives. One young mom who has already sent in her application shared her struggles of substance abuse and a childhood filled with instability and neglect. Another young mother relayed how she feels trapped in a relationship with the father of her children and how she is unsure of who she is anymore.

The good news is that we believe there is hope for each young mother who is trying to break generational cycles of emotional, spiritual and financial poverty. We have seen many lives transformed through the "Thrive" program and are excited to work with a new group this September. One young mother who went through a previous "Thrive" cycle recently stated, "Thrive changed my life forever."

This year we are enhancing our existing group counseling sessions with a technique called photo-therapy. It is a way for participants to express themselves creatively and connect on a deeper level with the topics we cover during "Thrive". Jennifer Mervyn, our "Thrive" psychologist, is in need of camera's for the 10-week course that begins on September 19, 2011. If anyone has a camera they would like to donate or allow us to use, we would appreciate it!

We are excited for the "Thrive" program and are waiting with anticipation to see the potential this year has to offer. Please pray that our young mothers will take full advantage of the program and find it as beneficial as past participants have.

STEPPING UP young fathers

stepping up logs

The new logo for STEPPING UP young fathers, with the cross on the sole, represents Christ standing with our young dads as they step up to be committed fathers.

Dave has been researching our community and looking at the needs of young fathers and realizes that we are barely scraping the surface in this outreach. He is already working with over fifteen young dads but will be reaching out to many more. Please pray for Dave as he reaches out to some of the untouchable young fathers in Surrey.

Thank You Volunteers!

Volunteers Jolene & Elizabeth

We recently held our volunteer appreciation event and twenty volunteers joined our staff for a home-cooked dinner. We spent some time reflecting back on the year and our volunteers shared some of their experiences with us. Their stories were a great reminder as to how lucky we are to have such amazing volunteers!

Three of our volunteers were young moms who had completed the Thrive program and are now giving back to Stepping Stones. Having them at our volunteer dinner was "full circle" for us!

We hope our volunteers will take time to rejuvenate and enjoy the warm summer months ahead. We look forward to seeing everyone in September when all our programs start up again.

For those volunteers who could not attend our appreciation dinner, and for all our donors, supporters and prayer warriors, we want to THANK YOU for all you do for Stepping Stones ... the seeds you plant help reap the harvest and we are grateful for everything you do for us.

Blessings to all!
