I hope you are as happy to welcome spring as I am! You will be pleased to learn that our Happy Hormone Cottage offices are as busy as ever and we are really enjoying helping our women by educating them on natural hormone balance, anti-aging and disease prevention. I really enjoy connecting with women of all ages in person or by email. I personally answer every email I receive and am always available to help.
Recently, I received this email from Nancy:
"Hi Lyn. My daughter gave me your email address and felt you could be of help to me. She thinks the world of you and what everyone has done for her. We see an amazing difference in her since she has been working with you and the pharmacist. Our daughter is back!! I thought I would start with a little about myself. I am 62, work as a special needs educator for preschool children and am going to be retiring this year. I want to be able to enjoy my upcoming retirement, but I find that I have become extremely anxious, don't feel as if I can make a decision without doubting it, little things that would
typically roll off my back are irritating me, I don't fall asleep without some sort of sleep aid, have become "weepy," and have gained 13 pounds this year! I have been on Synthroid for years, since thyroid disorders run in my family (mother, sister, brother, aunts). I also take a blood pressure medicine for high blood pressure, which I think is stress induced! Other than that, I do take some quality supplements and I try to work out 3 times a week: walking, using the eliptical machine, lifting weights and pilates once a week. My diet is pretty normal but I know that I probably rely too much on wine to calm me down these days! I recently told my OB/GYN I was having night sweats even though I am way past menopause. She didn't have an answer for me! Well, now that I have written a novel and bared my soul...I hope to hear back from you and possibly start to figure out what is going on. I want the old Nancy back! Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope I don't sound like a nut case as I am really a very fun person who loves to laugh and be silly with the children at school. Take care and have a great day! Nancy."
My response to Nancy is an informative one:
"Hi Nancy. Good to hear from you! Being a 56 year old woman myself, I get it! It's funny about
women's health and aging issues. It is the one field where doctors are not able to help us much because the tools they have in their toolbox just don't meet our needs. Doctors do a great job of getting rid of symptoms, but conventional medicine isn't really equipped to find the cause of our issues. What we do at our Happy Hormone Cottages - being a women helping women facility - is to listen to your story, and then educate you on your options for natural hormone balance. What happens is that as we age, our hormone receptors of estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, and DHEA deplete, so we begin to experience issues. Did you know that estrogen does 300 jobs in the body? It is also responsible for helping to prevent dementia and heart disease. By the time we have gone through menopause, we don't have the estrogen our body needs to remain healthy, so we are at risk for disease. (by the way, hot flashes and night sweats indicate a lack of estrogen). Guess what progesterone does? (brace yourself!) It helps us sleep, prevent depression, reduce anxiety, elevate the mood, prevent sugar cravings, reduce aches and pains, balances estrogen dominance to help prevent breast cancer. We begin to lose our progesterone levels at around age 35, which makes most of us estrogen dominant. Estrogen dominance is what is responsible for our brain fog, extra 25-30 pounds around our mid-section, and heightens our risk for breast cancer. Finally, testosterone is responsible for helping to build new bone, helping our memory recall, and giving us energy. When we also repair our exhausted adrenal glands that are causing adrenal fatigue, libido comes back in about 8 months.
Over half of our clients who come to see us and are already on Synthroid are still having significant thyroid issues. Doctors typically check TSH and T4, but very few check free T4, free T3 or TPO (autoimmune deficiencies). Why is no one checking free T3? This is like fixing a broken arm, when the leg is broken. And when we go back to our doctors because we are not feeling any better, the typical response is to increase the dose of Synthroid. (i.e.put another cast on that same broken arm, so now you have 2 casts.....and that leg is still broken!) So I also want to get a full thyroid panel on you. Luckily, our testing kits do a great job of analyzing your saliva and blood spot, so we can see where your hormone levels are at the tissue level of your cells. Once we know where your body is in regards to these hormone levels, we can work with your doctor (if he is willing) or one of ours, to restore your hormone balance. Looking forward to seeing you soon so we can get you tested, treated and better! You deserve to live your best life naturally and to look forward to and enjoy your upcoming retirement. Keep me posted on your journey. We are always here to serve you! Fondly, Lyn"
You know we are all about relationships! So once we get you tested and treated...we make sure you get better by following up with you monthly. We like to check in to make sure you are healing, and experiencing slow but steady progress.
I recently received a response email from Tonya,
"Hi Lyn, thank you for checking in with me. Since I have been on hormone therapy and adrenal formula, things have really changed for me. The T-3 I am now on for my thyroid has really made a difference. Since I started therapy, constipation has been eliminated, hair loss has decreased, I am seeing fat around my waist slowly going away, my skin is no longer dry, I have lost 14 lbs, I am having sex again, and my energy has come back enough for me to start working out at the gym. I have been walking an hour on the treadmill 3 times a week. Before my adrenals were addressed, I could barely walk down the street without needing to sit down! I have decided that now is the time to
lose an additional 40 pounds to really get back to normal, so I am reading up on your new weight loss program on your website and am excited to start that protocol next. In the meantime, I am going to consult with a trainer at the gym. Thank you so much for everything and for helping me get my life back. Tonya."
We love helping our women! Our motto is "Become educated! Become empowered! Become Committed to YOUR best health naturally." Looking forward
to hearing from you soon and knowing how we can further serve you!
Warmly,
Lyn
