Last Week's Contest Answer
Congratulations to our winner, Peter Szymkowicz of Shoreham, Vermont! We had 39 correct answers. Peter receives a copy of our book, The Outside Story.
This tool was found recently leaning up against a tree in a
forest. What's it used for?
NW Answer: This "tubing tool," is used to join pieces of maple sap tubing (we
changed the picture to illustrate how it works). The tools cost about
$200, but as one reader pointed out, if you're handy, you can make your
own for around $30.

The mission of the Center for Northern Woodlands
Education is to encourage a culture of forest stewardship in the
Northeast by producing and distributing media content to increase
understanding of and appreciation for the natural wonders, economic
productivity, and ecological integrity of the region's forests. Our
programs give people the information
they need to help build a sustainable future for our region. Through
Northern Woodlands magazine, the Northern Woodlands Goes to School
program, and special
publications, we make a difference in how people care for their land.
