Shevat: The Jewish Nature Month
As
we celebrate the Jewish New Year for Trees, let's remember that our people
began in the outdoors. As part of
God's creation of man and placement in the Garden of Eden, God charges humanity
with both 'cultivating' and 'guarding' the land. We're allowed to use natural resources, and at the same
time, we are required to protect and care for them. To this end, we have
initiated a Sustainability Committee, convening people with expertise
and passion in areas including alternative energy sources, water conservation,
organic farming, composting, recycling, reforestation, gardening and more. They will coordinate camp-wide
sustainability efforts, create and vet proposals and make recommendations to
the board. Want to get involved? Contact us...We want your ideas!
Those who want more frequent contact please follow us on Facebook or read our blog posts, which are updated on a regular basis.

Sammy Robbins- Chalutza
Sammy Robbins was the first camper to register for Ramah Outdoor Adventure! She contacted us at the end of the 2009 summer season before we had even officially opened registration for 2010. A long time Ramah camper and resident of Florida, we were delighted to have such a standout individual as our first official camper. To honor Sammy, we asked her to write a few paragraphs about herself as an introduction to the broader Ramah Outdoor Adventure community.
"My name is Samara (Sammy) Robbins, and I'm an 8th grader at... (Read more)

Testimonial Cohn Family
The following letter was written by the Cohn family who experienced Camp Ramah this summer as part of the Ramah in the Rockies Family camp.
Imagine davening 8,000 feet above sea level in the cool, fresh air of the Colorado Rockies surrounded by gorgeous, rocky, tree-covered mountains. Our rustic experience at Ramah in the Rockies Family Camp included all that, plus hikes, singing and dancing, digging to hunt for gems and our favorites- canoeing on a glacial lake and eating s'mores. We spent four night there with another Anshai Torah family and several other families from our region. It served as a wonderful introduction to the exquisite property to the families represented by our Southwest region.

Director's Blog
I write this update having just returned from an afternoon at the Ramah in the Rockies Ranch. We needed a 4 wheel drive vehicle to access the camp today, but once we reached the grounds it was amazing to drive around the pristine ranch. As is the case in so much of Colorado this time of year, there were parts of the road that had no snow at all and others that were buried in one foot drifts! I did get stuck a few times, but with the help of my passengers, we managed to push the SUV each time the wheels just wanted to spin.
Being at camp, made me realize... Read more.

Site Committee Update
The Site Committee has been busy planning and preparing the site for camp opening in June, 2010. To do that, 9 new tent platforms will be erected for new wall tents, an event trailer added with adequate toilets and sinks (to suppleme nt the existing shower house), and a large pavilion tent will be set up. In addition, kitchen equipment and utensils must be ordered and repairs made to structures and infrastructure. Our new ranch manager, Miki Gooding, started January 1 and is already busy getting the property operational.
We need volunteers on Sundays in May to build the tent platforms, so save some time, bring your hammer, and come on up to the ranch!
