2010 Staff Profile
Risa Isard

Risa IsardEach month, we will feature a member of our Ramah Outdoor Adventure community.  This month, our featured person is Risa Isard.  Risa attended our staff training program in 2009 and will be returning as a founding tzevet (staff) member in 2010.

Risa Isard was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona.  She is currently a sophomore at Duke University.  A community service enthusiast turned social change activist, Risa has been involved with Tikun Olam from a young age (she was the recipient of the local NBC affiliate's '12 Who Care Award' in elementary school).

ROA: Not Your Typical Jewish Camp

roa 2009 trainingSomewhere between the early morning Frisbee games, meals cooked on camping stoves, and days spent hiking on 10,000 foot peaks, one thing became very clear: Ramah Outdoor Adventure at Ramah in the Rockies isn't your typical Jewish camp.

This past summer, seventeen counselors traveled to Deckers, Colorado for an intensive nine-day training at what will soon become Ramah's first adventure camp.

camper in waterThe Pioneers Campaign is raising $500,000 enabling site improvements and scholarships for the June 2010 camp opening. We are aiming for 100 gifts at $5,000 and are 60% of the way there.  All donors to The Pioneers Campaign, at various giving levels, will be recognized with a permanent tribute at the site.
