Greetings!

Happy Easter!  I hope you are enjoying this wonderful time of year. As I write this, the kids are on Spring Break, and we are all loving this weather.

As I get back to reality next week, I am looking forward to attending a conference on glaucoma. Some of the best experts from across the country will be sharing the latest glaucoma research and treatment options.

Have Allergies Gotten the Best of You?

Spring is here and so are allergies!

So what can you do to make yourself feel better during this beautiful time of year?  Here are a few pointers:

1) Rinse your face and eyes after being outside.

2) Apply cold compresses on your eyes to reduce the Dr. Franklininflammation.

3) Wash your hair at night so you are not rolling around in pollen during the night.

4) Use Alaway eye drops (over the counter) to helping with itching.

5) Switch to daily disposable contact lenses during allergy season.

If all else fails, make an appointment so I can help manage your allergies year round.

Polarized lenses are used in sunglasses to reduce glare from reflective surfaces such as the surface of a lake or the hood of a car. They accomplish this feat through a process called polarization, much like a venetian blind controls sunlight through a window.

Did you know that UV exposure may lead to premature macular degeneration
Of the 20 million people with cataracts, an estimated 20% are due to UV exposure.  Every year 3.2 million people go blind from prolonged UV exposure.

Xperio Polarized Lenses completely block UV rays, providing 100% UVA/UVB protection, reducing potential vision damage.  Unlike regular sunglasses, they also virtually eliminate glare, allowing you to see more clearly and comfortably outdoors.  Independent tests show that Xperio Polarized Lenses improves driver reaction time, allowing a driver to stop a vehicle 23 feet sooner.  That's good information to know when you are choosing your next pair of sunglasses!

Michelle10 Myths About Contact Lenses

1) I cannot wear contact lenses. Yes, you can! With so many product improvements in recent years, just about everyone can wear contacts. For example, there are now bifocal contact lenses for people with presbyopia, and toric soft lenses that correct astigmatism. If there are other reasons you could not wear contacts in the past, ask us - you may just get a welcome surprise!

2) A contact lens will get lost behind my eye. Nope! A thin membrane covers your eye and connects to the inside of your eyelids, making this a physical impossibility.

3) Contact lenses are uncomfortable. Not true. After a brief adaptation period, most people don't even notice they are wearing contact lenses, and you should not have any eye pain. For those that do experience contact lens discomfort, there are several remedies available once the cause is pinpointed.

4) Contact lenses can get stuck to my eye. Remember the old eye injury urban legend about the welder who accidentally fused contacts to his eyes? It's just a tall tale, as are other stories about contacts becoming "attached."

5) Contact lenses are too much trouble to take care of. Wrong! One-bottle contact lens care systems make cleaning and disinfecting your lenses easy. You can choose to eliminate contact lens care altogether with daily disposables.
