Greetings!

This week I tackle a misconception that I run across every once in a while.

"It's not a loss unless I sell it"

Sorry, it doesn't work that way.  You've lost the money whether you sell it or not, and the question you should ask yourself is "is this the right allocation for this sum of money right now, understanding I can't change what has already happened?"

Listen to my video below.
Dark Side of Deficits

S&P 500 Actual vs. Forward
Are we on the cusp of a secular bull market?

Does the economy and the stock market go in sync?  Is one a leading indicator for the other?

How do you value the stock market?  Forward P/Es or Reported P/Es?

And how will our current deficits affect the answers to all these questions?

This is one of the best articles of the year, packed with information for you to fully understand our current situation.  For your convenience, I've highlighted what I think is most important.

Do high-cost funds pay off?

It's the after fee return that matters, and this article is a good one because it talks about the importance of expense efficiency.

Just because a mutual fund costs more doesn't mean it's better, but then just because it's cheaper doesn't mean it's better either.

100 Year Bonds -- Sign of Trouble

You've probably heard of 10 year bonds.  30 year bonds too.

How about 100 years?

Norfolk Southern is issuing a 100 year bond that will mature in 2110!

Is this a good or bad sign?

54 Animal Crackers

I don't know about you, but I loved Animal Crackers as a kid growing up.

Did you realize there have been 54 different animals featured?

That's a whole lotta animal goodness.
