Greetings!
Are you focusing on the sexy aspects of your financial world, or the more practical? Would you rather focus on just the investment side, an extra percent or 2 here or there, or look at the big picture including all areas of your financial wealth?
I hereby assert that the most successful people I've worked with over the past 19 years did boring stuff like 1. Spent less money than they made 2. Had a clear retirement plan addressing pre- and post-retirement issues 3. Focused on expense and tax efficiency

ETFs and Taxes
Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) tend to be very tax-efficient. With inevitable rising taxes in our near to far future, ETFs start to look very attractive from a tax efficient point of view.
There are, however, many of them out there and some are more tax efficient than others.
To Do: Consider the role ETFs may play in your portfolio. Talk to me if you need help.
All About Employment
You want to know all about those unemployment figures? This article has multiple views of the situation today.
When you add in discouraged workers, those working part-time that want to work full-time, and marginally attached workers, the unemployment figure is closer to 16%.
If you're retired, be happy you're not in this job market. At the same time, evaluate your risk level in your portfolio because many of these people will be drawing down their savings right at the time Baby Boomers are entering their retirement years.
Click on the link below for unemployment charts.
Employment Charts - Link Why TIPS Won't Protect Against Rising Rates
Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS) can have a place in your portfolio. I have many of them for my clients. However, they are not a panacea.
Interest rates and inflation don't have to move in unison!
TIPS can go up and down in value just like other bonds, and the duration of your TIPS fund is important to know.
Read this article for a detailed understanding which might save you some heartache and money if you don't fully understand the relationships between real and nominal yields, duration, and inflation.
