The Pain in Spain
I know I'm a wet rag, but the problems that are playing out in Europe are a precursor to what is happening here in the United States. We have very big problems with our deficits and debt levels, and this will be a problem in the coming years. I know that's not what you want to hear, but it's the truth as I see it nonetheless.
John Mauldin does a good job explaining this in his most recent newsletter. It talks about Greece and Spain and the problems with those 2 countries. You will continue to read about these countries in the coming year.
Deflation, not inflation
 If you've been following my newsletters for the past few months, you know I've been warning about deflation and it's spiraling affect on the economy.
It's continuing to happen, but may be subsiding if the Federal Reserve starts to increase rates. A little inflation is actually good.
and Core Inflation Declines - Link I'm a huge fan of Warren Buffet and think he speaks some real wisdom. One of his quotes "you never see just one cockroach" really seems to hold true when we're talking about the problems in Europe. Europe has big problems! It is what it is.
To do: Look at your European exposure. Is it appropriate?!

St. Baldrick to conquer Kids' Cancer
A very good friend of mine (and the best marketing and advertising consultant in the universe) is shaving his head to raise money for childhood cancer research. The funny thing is that he's bald to begin with, and he sells advertising on his head. If that's not creative marketing, I don't know what is.
