Inflation

Inflation
November and December's inflation numbers are concentrated in transportation (energy).  Remembering back to 2008, oil plunged from $140 a barrel to $50 in just a few months.  This is shown in the year to year numbers to the right.

Inflation for the near term should remain low, but I'm having a hard time seeing how it can't creep up in the next 12 months.

 
FDIC Limits Bank-Account Interest

January 1st saw a new law go into effect which said less capitalized banks can not pay more that 0.75% over the national average rate.  In the past, small banks would pay a higher rate to increase their assets on deposit while FDIC was on the hook for any failures. 

With this artificial ceiling put into place, there will be less movement on the upper end as rates start to increase.

To do:  Investigate other options for cash management, including Equity-indexed CDs.

Boulder County is offering discounted loan rates for energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades.  You have 15 years to pay the loan back.

I'm impressed with these toothpick artwToothpick Opera Houseorks.  Can you imagine how much time it must take to plan out and then execute?  I was pretty pleased with myself last year when I completed a 3D puzzle, but that's nothing compared to these.

I'm thinking some of the creators have too much time on their hands.  I need to off load some of my to-dos to them.....
