COBRA subsidy for jobless expires soon

Last February Congress agreed to cover 65% of the COBRA health insurance premiums for workers laid off between September 1, 2008 and December 31, 2009.  December 31st is right around the corner and Congress hasn't renewed the subsidy yet.

No Cost of Living Adjustment for Social Security

For the first time since COLAs were introduced, there will be no increase for 2010.  Due to deflation, the purchasing power has actually increased for recipients, but the law says there can't be a negative COLA.  There is talk around Washington about a 1 time $250 disbursement, but nothing has been passed yet.



Low-Cost Index Investing

This is a pretty good interview on the value of Low-Cost Index Investing.  One of the pillars of my investing philosophy is to be expense conscious, and Burton Malkiel makes this point very well.  Keep your expenses down and you get to keep more of your money!
