Keeping Your Mind & Your Eyesight!  As all of you know I am a big advocate of aerobic exercise.  It turns out this is more important than you can imagine. New research shows that moderate physical activity performed in midlife or later appears to be associated with a reduced risk of mental impairment -- and a six-month high-intensity aerobic exercise program can improve mental function in individuals who already have mental disfunction!

Each year, 10 percent to 15 percent of individuals with early mental impairment will develop dementia, as compared with 1 percent to 2 percent of the general population.

Physical exercise may likely protect against mental impairment by means of the production of nerve-protecting compounds, greater blood flow to the brain, improved development and survival of neurons and the decreased risk of heart and blood vessel diseases. In our 30 + years of clinical research we have reversed Macular Degeneration  with a combination  of Diet, Exercise and Natural Supplements.  Guess what?  Your eye is a part of your brain!  The new research on keeping your mind is no surprise to us at all!   This is why Dr Ross developed DRI (digital retina imaging). It is designed to let us predict those most at risk for mind / body disease (strokes, heart attacks, macular degeneration and lots more)  and even let us monitor their success in treatment.

Greetings!

HEAD TILT MAY MEAN EYE MUSCLE IMBALANCE

                        RIGHT HEAD TILT

If you notice your child tilts the head to one direction, don't settle for an answer that the child has a weak neck muscle.  it could be that there is a vertical eye muscle imbalance!

When one eye has a tendency to drift upwards (or downwards), head tilt is  a compensatory way to avoid seeing double.  If your child has a visible head tilt, and old photos reveals a head tilt, have their eyes examined by us!   Dr Jay Desai is our pediatric specialist and will see children as young as 3 years of age.

LINK BETWEEN HIGH INTAKE OF OMEGA 6 FATTY ACID AND MACULAR DEGENERATION

grain fed beef
With processed foods and grain fed beef high in Omega 6 fatty acids, new studies suggest this excess of Omega 6 increase the risk of Macular Degeneration!

Ideally, Omega 6 to Omega 3 fatty acid ratio should be 3 to 1.  In a standard Western diet, this ratio is as high as 30 to1!

Better ways to optimize a healthy ratio is to avoid grain fed steak (instead eat grass fed beef).  You may also wish to consider seeing a holistic dietician for an optimal meal plan.  As a helpful supplement, you may take 1 teaspoon of cod liver oil daily (with heart healthy Omega 3 fatty acids).  This can help to overcome some of  the imbalance.
  ACNE ROSACEA AND DRY EYES

ROSACEA

Acne Rosacea  is one risk factor for dry eyes.  Among the several symptoms of dry eyes this includes gritty sensation, excessive tearing, and intermittent blur that improves with blink.  The old conventional treatment for dry eyes was using artifical tears, which does NOT treat the underlying issue of poor oil secretions!  What is effective is to drink two tablespoons of Flax Seed Oil daily.  Many patients of Dr. Desai have seen improvement with their dry eyes with this therapy.  Here is a link to what some people with this condition have experienced!
