COMPLIMENTARY CARE FOR GLAUCOMA
(Factors in addition to lowering Eye Pressure!)
Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of vision loss. Treating glaucoma with eye drops to lower the eye pressure is still the standard of care. Recently, there is new research in antioxidants and Cod Liver in protecting the optic nerve.
When there is lack for blood flow to the optic nerve (in patients with cardiovascular disease) there is increased risk of optic nerve damage. 1500 mg to 2000 mg of Omega 3 in Cod Liver Oil may help increase blood flow.
On the cellular level, current research indicated that damage to the cells of the optic nerve and the drainage channels can cause Glaucoma to progress! Glutamate (which is found in MSG) has been implied in Glaucoma progression. Oxidation of the drainage outflow can increase eye pressure. 200 Mg Ubiquinol (the readily bioavailable form of Coenzyme Q 10) may protect the drainage outflow channels from oxidation damage.
Please be advised that many cholesterol lowering medications can deplete the body of Coenzyme q 10!

LINK BETWEEN MONOSODIUM GLUTAMATE AND OBESITY
Obesity can affect the eyes with increased risks of retinal strokes and macular degeneration. Now newest studies suggest the food enhancer Monosodium Glutamate with unwanted weight gain. Monosodium Glutamate can disrupt the function of the Hypothalamus (the part of the brain that regulates weight).
As a part of a healthy weight maintenance, eating low carbohydrate diet, eliminating Monosodium Glutamate, and mixed aerobics and weight training will ensure healthy eyes!

SIMPLE DIET CHANGES PREVENT EYE DISEASE
Some scientists are reporting that the degeneration of sight caused by a common eye disease could be reduced by up to 20 percent just by increasing consumption of fruit, vegetables and nuts!
Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is one of the leading causes of blindness. It results in a gradual loss of central vision, due to the failure of cells in the light sensitive membrane at the center of the retina. There is currently no 100% cure for the more common 'dry' form of the disease, though early diagnosis can help reduce progression. Poor eating habits have a huge impact your health in general, including the health of your eyes. There are other risk factors related to AMD, including age, smoking, sedentary lifestyle and obesity. But simple changes in diet could dramatically reduce the number of people who suffer from eye diseases such as AMD and Cataracts.
