Action Alert!
Time Magazine Attacks Farmers
Time's Aug. 31 cover story  attacks conventional American agriculture -- despite the fact that food is affordable, abundant, healthy and safe and U.S. family farmers are growing corn sustainably. Click here to help NCGA set the record straight.

About Us

Founded in 1957, the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) represents approximately 35,000 dues-paying corn growers and the interests of more than 300,000 farmers who contribute through corn checkoff programs in their states. NCGA and its 48 affiliated state associations and checkoff organizations work together to help protect and advance corn growers' interests.

Land Use, Ethanol Conference Proves Timely as Debates Continue

Click here for related audioThe National Corn Growers Association's conference on land use and carbon impacts of corn ethanol, held this past week in St. Louis, has offered participants a broad view of a significant topic as Washington braces to continue debates on climate change legislation and the future of ethanol.

"With the U.S. Senate expected in September to take up a climate bill passed by the House this summer, and the Environmental Protection Agency considering a request to expand the allowable blend of ethanol into gasoline, the conference has provided a deep and broad look at the impact of ethanol production on agriculture and the environment," said Steve Ruh, an Illinois farmer who chairs NCGA's ethanol committee. "It's been a day and a half of penetrating presentations, thoughtful questions and friendly debates."

NCGA Members Benefit with Car Rental

NCGA members can now take advantage of a discount at all Enterprise, National and Alamo car rental locations. The discount is 5 percent off rental fees at Enterprise neighborhood offices and 10 percent off rentals from their airport locations.

"With so much travel required of grower leaders in service of our common crop, this is a natural benefit to provide and we're happy to partner with Enterprise," said NCGA Grower Services Action Team Chair Tim Dolan, whose committee oversaw development of the discount.

Growers Encouraged to Join NCGA Teams

Applications are due Monday, Aug. 31, for NCGA members interested in working a one-year term on NCGA action teams or committees starting in October. This work provides growers an excellent opportunity to become better farmers and more involved in shaping the future of their industry.

"Service on an NCGA action team or committee provides a substantive program, policy and communication foundation for the organization," said NCGA First Vice President Darrin Ihnen. "Our 'team way' of doing corn grower business has proved successful, and the coming year will continue to strengthen team and committee program work accomplished on behalf of corn growers."

 PROFILES IN AG INNOVATION

Bob Bowman

As Farming Gets Sophisticated, So Do Farmers

Every Friday, NCGA features a profile of one of our country's corn farmers that provides a look at how growers are innovating to help feed and fuel the world.

You don't need an MBA to be a farmer, but it helps. Bob Bowman works a farm in DeWitt, Iowa (a couple of hours' drive west of Chicago) with his son, who has an MBA from Iowa State University. Bob himself has a B.S. in economics and agricultural business from Iowa State and has worked on a second degree there in animal science.
