President Positive on Biofuels
 
NCGA thanked President Obama for his statement that advanced renewable transportation fuels will be one of the nation's most important industries of the 21st Century, and that corn-based ethanol must remain viable to achieve this vision.
 
"With oil prices on the rise, ethanol's critical role in the U.S. economy, especially promoting energy security, is more important than ever," NCGA President Bob Dickey said. "We are pleased to hear the president's clear statement of corn-based ethanol's pivotal role in the nation's future energy strategy, and we will continue to make sure the Administration understands the current and future value of corn ethanol." 


EPA Accepting Comments on RFS Changes
 
Now that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has opened a 60-day comment period for proposed changes to the Renewable Fuel Standard, NCGA is formulating a comprehensive response and working with industry allies to provide a set of science-based comments that underscore the importance of corn ethanol for its economic, environmental and energy benefits.
 

NCGA Commends Congressman 
 
NCGA has commended Rep. Zack Space (D-OH) for demonstrating leadership and commitment to the agriculture industry during the House of Representatives Committee on key climate change legislation, the Energy and Commerce mark-up of H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act. During recent committee proceedings, Rep. Space offered two amendments that would be beneficial to corn growers and the entire agriculture industry.

Biotech's Benefits Span the Globe
 
A new study by the British research firm PG Economics has found that raising biotech crops contributes to environmental and economic sustainability. Farmers in 25 countries are seeing increased yields, improved productivity and higher revenues due to agricultural biotechnology. NCGA has been a leading advocate for using technology to boost yield and help feed and fuel the world. 
TV Show Improves Farming Image
 
America's HeartlandAmerica's Heartland, a television program shown on many PBS stations around the country, is improving the attitudes of the general public toward the industry that provides feed, food, fiber and fuel. According to research conducted by Trac Media Services, the program, now in its fifth season, is having a "definite" impact on its viewers in its effort to educate them about farming. NCGA provides supports for the program.

Mike Geske, of Matthews, Mo., is president of the Missouri Corn Growers Association, chairman of the NCGA Public Policy Action Team, former chairman of the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council, and former vice chairman of the NCGA Biotechnology Working Group.
