NCGA Commends President on Biofuels
 
Click here for related audioThe National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) commended President Obama May 5 for his commitment to the biofuels industry by the creation of the Biofuels Interagency Working Group.
 
NCGA is pleased President Obama has acknowledged the importance of biofuels to our nation's energy policy.
 
 
Also, in a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking released May 5 regarding the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS), EPA indicated that corn ethanol provides a 61 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to gasoline. EPA is seeking comments and a scientific review of land-use change effects.
 
 
 
Congress Looks at Land Use Issues
 
The House of Representatives Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Credit, Energy and Research held a hearing May 6 to review the impact of indirect land use provisions in the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). This hearing came one day after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NOPR) that would revise the current RFS program and implement several changes to renewable fuel requirements.

This campaign now includes a full-page ad running in Politico, a Capitol Hill newspaper.
 
Collaborating with NCGA on the advertisement are Growth Energy, the Renewable Fuels Association, the American Coalition for Ethanol, and the Biotechnology Industry Organization.

Ethanol Cuts Greenhouse Gases
 
NCGA urges policymakers in our nation's capital to acknowledge the benefits of corn ethanol in helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As the debate surrounding the future of biofuels continues, it is imperative that policymakers recognize the important role of corn ethanol as demonstrated through numerous studies.

A supplement to be published in the June issue of the Journal of Nutrition encourages the scientific community and the general public to stop demonizing high fructose corn syrup as the culprit of obesity and to rethink the myths about high fructose corn syrup's impact on the American diet.
