November 2010
Greetings!

Living in Southwest Florida means you will have bugs and rodents...no matter how clean you are or how often you sweep, you will have bugs and rodents invade.

Florida is flooded with different types of bugs, insects and rodents.  Some are good and some are bad.  Some are deadly and some carry diseases.

Having a pest control company in Southwest Florida is not a luxury, it is a necessity.  It is important to have a pest control professional to help keep your family safe during all seasons in Florida.

Our family is dedicated to keeping your family safe 365 days a year.  Please feel free to call me with any of your questions and concerns.

Sincerely,

Kim Carlson

THE SEASON TO BAKE
without the all natural bug!

This is the time of year we all bake, but how old is your flour and sugar?

Bugs are sometimes in the bags we purchase or the bugs are attracted to the food source once in our pantry.

If your ingredients have been setting in the Red Flour Beetlepantry unprotected for a year, it's time to buy new.

But when you bring them home, put them in a Tupperware container in case they already have bugs and to keep new bugs from entering.

WHAT'S LIVING IN YOUR WINTER GARDEN?

Did you know you have bad creatures in your garden even though fall is here?

SnailSnails and Slugs can destroy an entire plant.  But weed control helps because it eliminates alternative food and a hiding place.Slug

Passionvine HoppersPassionvine Hoppers suck the sap from plants which causes your plants to lose its vigor.  Destroying their eggs and removing woody twigs and dying stems will help get rid of them.

What creatures are good for your
Winter garden?

Millipede 2Millipedes feed exclusively on rotting materials in your garden.

Centipedes
The centipedes feed only on other insects in your garden.

DOES THE COLD KILL
THE BUGS?

Bug ControlAnts and termites go below the frost line where they have stored food and return in the Spring.  Just because you can't see them, doesn't mean they are dead.Termites

Many insects produce glycerol which is like an antifreeze.  It keeps them tolerant to the cold weather, so they don't have to leave us during the Fall and Winter months.

THE PILL BUG
This is a must read!
AKA:  Potato Bug, Roly Poly

Pill bugThe Pill Bug is a crustacean, not an insect!

They are closely related to lobster, shrimp and crayfish.

They need a moist environment to breath through their gills, but can't survive in water.

Pill Bugs carry their eggs in a pouch like crabs and once they hatch, the young remain in the pouch for several days.

If you have Pill Bugs, note they do not urinate.  Bet you didn't know that?  Yet, they do poop!   Wait, there is more!  To keep the essential element of copper, they eat their poop which means no droppings to clean up.

Here is another fact, they can drink through their mouth and from their anus.

The Pill Bug does get sick.  It will turn bright blue when it has a viral infection.

They are beneficial to your garden because they eat decaying vegetation, insect eggs, and animal waste.  They are known as the cleaners of topsoil.

DEAR ROSIE THE RAT

Dear Rosie the Rat:

Lately my neighbors are having problems with Rat photorodents. I have a cat and figure Fluffy will keep my house free of rodents and I shouldn't have to worry about needing any special pest control. Am I right?

Sincerely,

M.G., Cape Coral

Dear M.G.:

Well, I really don't like cats and I really have a good nose and can smell the cats. This may detour me from moving the family in right away,  But what I want, I get and most likely you have the perfect attic.  I do love a big family.  I can have a liter of 6 to 12 babies every 24 to 28 days.

If your neighbors try to push us out, the cold weather will bring me and my family into your home.  Usually home owners don't keep their cats in the attic.  So we will climb up your ac vents and we like to travel on your phone lines.  We are excellent climbers and can fit through a hole the size of a ½ inch.

Did you know that every time I walk I leave a trail of urine, this is so I can find my way.  I have very poor eye sight, but my  sense of smell is excellent.

I also have big teeth too, I have to constantly chew on something because my teeth just keep growing.  One of my favorite things to chew is electrical wires which is a cause of many fires.  Next time you decide you are having a plumbing problem check to see if I have been gnawing on your pc pipes. This also may cause for you to have mold issue in your home since the little holes will be leaking water.

The best thing to do would be to move Fluffy to the attic, but I doubt Fluffy, you or PETA would like that.  So I suggest a rodent control program from All "U" Need Pest Control and if possible, sealing all the cracks and holes from power lines leading to your attic.

Sincerely,

Rosie the Rat

Dear Rosie the Rat:

GeckoWhat do I use to keep Geckos from my lanai, front porch and home?  I don't like them leaving their dropping around.  I know that mothballs keep snakes away, but don't know if that will work for Geckos.

Sincerely,

R.Z., Ft. Myers

Dear R.Z.:

Geckos are not pests, they are just uninvited guests.  And yes, they do leave their dropping behind.  But they do eat the insects and spiders that can bite, damage your home or bring you diseases.

Geckos choose your home because it contains a supply of food.  You just have to remove the food source.  Having All U Need Pest Control treat your home, lanai and yard for insects and spiders will rid you of the Geckos.   Once their dinner is gone, they will have to move to another place.

Another way I have found is by using mothballs.  Geckos hate the smell.  You can buy lots of them and place them around your yard, lanai and home.  Make sure you put them in the corners, cracks and crevices inside and the dark, moist and warm spots outside.  Don't forget the garage.  But please remember, the insects and spiders will still be there.  And yes, your home will smell like a large mothball, but the Geckos will be gone.

Sincerely,

Rosie the Rat
