RATS AMONG US! |
 The Roof Rat is common in Florida! They love fruit trees, which we all have in our backyards and they love to live in attics and soffits which again, we all have. The Roof Rat is responsible for carrying the Bubonic Plague to the world and they are the reservoir host for Murine Typhus. They also cause Salmonellosis in food from their droppings, Weil's Disease from their urine and Rickettsialpox. For such a small creature, they sure do cause a lot of illness and death. Roof Rats may be living in your home today with out you knowing. They will come out at night to invade your food, water and belongings. Roof Rats have been known to chew through lead and plastic pipes to reach water. Their little bodies will not make much of a noise while destroying your home, but they will leave disease and illness in their path. All U Need Pest Control is an expert at inspecting a home or office for rodents. Since the Roof Rat breeds all year long in Florida and the females can have 4 to 5 litters per year, it is best to find them before you find evidence you have them.  The Bed Bug, Cimex lectularius, was common is the United States prior to WWII and have been around since the medieval and Aristoltle time. Improvements in hygiene and the use of DDT helped make the bug vanish in the USA since WWII.
Now the Bed Bugs are back in USA! Immigration and international travel to the United States has brought the bugs back to us. Now they can be found in homes, apartments, hotels, motels, health care facilities, dormitories, shelters, schools, public transportation, movie theaters, laundries, dry cleaners, furniture rental and office buildings.
 They have flat bodies that allow them to hide during the day in tiny crevices. Bed Bugs are active mainly at night. That is when they bite, while you are sleeping. The bite is to withdraw blood and it will last three to ten minutes. Since they are so small, you don't even wake up. After feeding, they run off and hide. They will not attach themselves to you.
Some people may have a reaction to the bites. It could be an itchy red welt or localized swelling with in a day or so of the bite.
 When staying at a hotel you must now check for Bed Bugs. Common places to examine are the bed sheets, upper and lower seams of the mattress and box spring and behind the head board. If you see many dark spots, most likely they are from bed bugs. Ask for a new room on the other side of the hotel and bring your clothes home in a plastic bag and immediately wash them. Your suit case may be treated by a professional or discarded. If the Bed Bugs make it to your home, they are hard to get rid of.
 Conventional inspect repellents do not appear to be effective against Bed Bugs. Even sleeping with the lights on won't stop the hungry bed bugs from biting.
