WEST FALMOUTH ROADSIDES GET A SPRING CLEAN UP

West Falmouth recently had a clean sweep of winter litter during Falmouth's Beautification Week. It was made possible by volunteers who braved the poison ivy and bugs earlier this month. The areas "swept of litter" were Old Dock Road, Nashawena, most of Quaker Rd., West Falmouth Highway, the approaches to Route 28 at Brick Kiln Rd. and Thomas Landers Rd., the ball park on Blacksmith Shop Rd., Chapoquit Road, many of the beach dunes, the traffic island at Brick Kiln/28A, a portion of Brick Kiln Rd. near Christ Lutheran Church and the West Falmouth Post Office borders.

Volunteers made this sweep possible by cleaning up small sections of these areas and disposing of the litter. We are extremely grateful to each volunteer for their cooperation, efforts, and enthusiasm-- Avis Gross, Sue Griglun, Christina Laurie, Bob McNeil, Barbara and John Weyand, Susan Moran, Martha Ross, Heather and John Re, Cynthia Lambert, Harriet Crocker, Doris and Frank Pinhack, the women of Emerson House, members of Christ Lutheran Church, Tim McIntyre, Betsy Gladfelter, James Vieira, Nancy and Dave Twitchell, and Ralph Stephen. A special thank you to Martha Asendorf for landscaping the traffic island at Brick Kiln and 28A. We couldn't have made such a difference in our village roadsides without everyone's participation. Our apologies if we overlooked any volunteer's name.

Many thanks,

Milt and Sue Williamson, West Falmouth coordinators

Chapoquoit Bridge & Old Dock Road Paving Repair .
The two year project on the bridge began in March! The construction has reduced traffic to one lane and will be controlled by a sensor operated traffic light.

Early reports indicated that the light system was not working properly and causing several issues. The contractor and the State have since corrected the problem.

June 23rd - Temporary Traffic Light.
Chappy Bridge Construction

The paving project on Old Dock Rd, will not be completed until September.
Nation Grid will be upgrading the gas service line from Nashawena St. to Chapoquoit Rd.
Additionally changes to the scope of work for the road improvements will no longer require the removal of trees to accommodate the grass swale that was originally called for.
Final paving should eliminate the puddling and the project should be completed in Fall.

Construction Start - March 2010.
