She'speach a real "Peach!"
Peaches Lives UnitedAt 93 years young, Alberta "Peaches" Johnson is a steadfast volunteer at Broken Arrow Seniors. She's given 24 years of her time and heart to the TAUW partner agency on a daily basis.

The staff at Broken Arrow Seniors describes Peaches as a volunteer who is loyal, helpful and always there to support others. She never misses a Monday Night Dance or the Senior Week activities. And you can count on her to be there for bingo, bunco and line dancing.

A two-time breast cancer survivor, Peaches is a "pint of power" and strength. TAUW was honored to award her with the 2nd annual Live United Spirit Award at the Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon. The award honors an individual from one of our 63 partner agencies who has made an indelible mark on the lives of others. Peaches is a true example of a Tulsa-area resident who Lives United!

Dandan Ellinor Takes on TAUW
Dan Ellinor Lives UnitedDan Ellinor was first introduced to the United Way in 1981 because his first boss was a passionate United Way supporter. Fast forward to 2010 and Dan is still a dedicated United Way enthusiast, which puts him in a perfect place to lead the 2010 campaign. Dan says, "I will work hard to ensure TAUW has a successful campaign as the needs of the community continue to increase." We're thrilled to have someone as positive and engaging as Dan to be TAUW's 2010 Campaign Chairman.

When he's not hard at work on the upcoming campaign, Dan's "other" job is the Senior Executive Vice President for BOK Financial. He joined BOKF in 2003 and is responsible for Commercial Banking for Bank of Oklahoma, Bank of Arkansas, Bank of Arizona and Bank of Albuquerque, BOKF Real Estate, Energy and Private Banking business lines, and the TransFund network. Prior to joining BOKF in 2003, Dan served as regional president for Compass Bank in Dallas and previously spent nearly 20 years with Bank of America.

Dan and his wife, Andrea, have three children: a son and two daughters.

Like father, like son
Dan's son works for Head Start in Iowa and interned at Community Action Project of Tulsa County, a TAUW partner agency.

In the June e-newsletter, we will profile Jim Bender of Williams, the 2011 Campaign Chairman. Be on the lookout!

Yourpal Principal is your "Pal"
Mark prepares for announcementsMark Graham recently traded his job as TAUW President and CEO to be Principal for a Day at Eisenhower International Elementary School. Shadowing Eisenhower's actual principal, Stacy Strow, his morning began with a multilingual reading of the morning announcements. Mark read in English, one student in French and another in Spanish.

Fun Fact: Eisenhower is a TPS immersion school where students can participate in the French or Spanish programs, starting in kindergarten and graduating in fifth grade. Students learn the second language proficiently with a near-native accent.

After the announcements, Mark helped with the school's spelling bee where the third graders took on the fourth and fifth graders. After passing out certificates to the participants, Mark went on a school tour and attended a parent/principal conference.

"As a kid growing up in Tulsa, I remember you never wanted to be summoned to the Principal's office. That usually meant big trouble," Mark recalls. "But given my recent experience as 'Principal for the Day' at Eisenhower, you can call me to that office anytime! What a remarkable group of students, faculty, administrators and engaged parents. All focused on one thing - ensuring a quality learning environment and experience for our future community citizens and leaders."

Community Investment Panels Underwayci
More than 140 volunteers are serving on the 2010 Community Investment panels. These volunteers each analyze four to five TAUW partner agencies, spending five months reviewing agency applications, conducting site visits and finalizing funding recommendations. These recommendations are then approved at a division level by the Community Investment Cabinet, presented to the Campaign Cabinet and finally ratified by Tulsa Area United Way's Board of Directors.

What will be the results of the panels' recommendations? Stay tuned for the 2010 goal announcement on June 22.
