LONDON CARES CURBSIDE FOOD DRIVE

TRY Recycling is a proud sponsor of the London Cares Curbside Food Drive

The London Cares Curbside Food Drive kicked off its 15th year of curbside collection on Friday June 10th. Last year 77,320 pounds were collected during the campaign. This year the food drive exceeded its 2011 target and surpassed the one  million pound mark!

These two TRY Employees both helped out on the TRY Recycling Team with London Cares Curbside Food Drive this year. Despite having to be at the designated daily route by 7am, their enthusiasm was contagious.

Important Reminders and Helpful Tips from the City of London

Summer Outdoor Use Water Regulations Apply June 1 to August 31 under City By-law

The City of London Water By-law W-3 is in effect each year from June 1 to August 31.

If your street address ends with a 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 you may use water outdoors on EVEN numbered calendar days only.

If your street address ends with a 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 you may use water outdoors on ODD numbered calendar days only.

Summertime Water Conservation Tips

1. Water your garden or lawn early in the morning or in the evening to reduce loss due to evaporation. As a rule, most lawns and gardens require little more than two to three centimeters of water per week. Use a rain gauge or put a margarine container on your lawn to help track water usage. Re-think how much lawn you need.

2. Naturalize your yard using native plant species to minimize maintenance, reduce costs and increase water efficiency. Select plants for their drought tolerance, and/or ability to thrive without regular maintenance in the climate conditions where they will be grown - xeriscaping - can reduce landscape water use by 50 to 75 per cent.

3. Water your lawn for longer periods once or twice a week rather than watering every other day. This will allow water to soak into the soil and get to the roots of plants better.

4. Your lawn only needs 2.5 centimeters (one inch) of water per week to stay green, and rain water counts.

5. Remember, rain barrels conserve rain water not subject to the Outdoor Water Use Regulations. The water is also better for your plants.

To reach the full root system of a tree you need to water in a circle area that extends from the trunk base to the outermost branches.

Unlike lawns which can go into dormancy and recover from a dry period, trees must have water to survive. Newly planted trees, in particular, are extremely vulnerable.

KEEP YOUR LOAD SECURED

Keep Your Load Secured

Headed for an Environmental Depot or one of our TRY Recycling Yards? Make sure all your wastes reach their destination. Remember, flying debris is a danger to other motorists and creates unsightly litter on our roadways.

Even if you are going a short distance and not driving on a highway, you are still required by law to secure your load.

FROM THE DESK OF TOM SKELLETT

TRY has made the leap to finally owning its own head office. The address is 11110 Longwoods, Delaware.

We look forward to serving our customers from our new digs! (Should be moved in before the end of June) We are very excited about having a more country feel. We are actually only 5 minutes from the city limits but, get to work in a more relaxed atmosphere. Less stress more productivity. Along with the new office we will be implementing a new telephone system that should greatly improve communication to our customers and team members. We will be advising you of the new address and any phone number changes in the upcoming weeks.
