TRY RECYCLING

And the WINNER is...

Congratulations to the entire TRY Team on being named the 2010 London Chamber of Commerce Business Achievement Awards Small Business of the Year!

On March 24, 2010 at the annual Business Achievement Awards Gala at the London Convention Centre, TRY Recycling Inc. was named winner in the Small Business of the Year category.  Jim Graham, CEO and Owner of TRY Recycling Inc. accepted this prestigious award in front of over 1,000 members of the London business community.

Accompanied by members of the TRY Team, Mr. Graham thanked the Team, our loyal customers, and the London business community for their recognition and for supporting an organization that is dedicated to the environmental well being of the local community and beyond!

A special congratulation goes out to the other finalists in the Small Business of the Year category: Black Fly Beverage Company, Echidna Solutions and London X-Ray Associates.  All of these worthy companies are excellent examples of leading and innovative organizations doing work here in London and across Canada!

From the Desk of Jim Graham

I felt like Mick Jagger...

Lights were in my eyes and all I could see were hundreds of heads anticipating my words from the microphone. I was stunned that a team of recyclers would receive the London Chamber of Commerce, Business Achievement Award in the small business category. It wasn't that I didn't feel our team deserved the recognition but that we don't fit the suit and tie model that attends this type of event. We can clean up as well as anybody but our comfort zone is making the gritty process of recycling successful for our customers!

For the last 19 years the TRY team has worked to develop new products and increase the amount we divert from landfills. I hope that our transparency and commitment to serve you, the customer by doing the right thing has underlined our appreciation for your business. Last year alone we recycled over 150 000 tonnes (that's the equivalent of 11 million blue boxes) and diverted over 90 % of the materials that you dropped off. There are many options to dispose waste and we thank you for choosing recycling and TRY. We have been able to grow as a business because of your loyalty and support. We thank you!

We look at this award as starting point rather than a goal lined crossed. We will continue to strive to make the recycling of your materials as convenient and cost effective as possible. We will continue to offer transparency to ensure your efforts to do the right thing aren't "green washing" to make you feel good but not produce the maximum positive effect for the environment. We look forward to your input to improve our services and recognize your recycling efforts. We look forward to helping you grow your business and leaving an environmental legacy that your children will benefit from.

From the TRY team we thank you for the recognition and are inspired to continually improve your bottom line and maximize your recycling efforts.

Jim Graham, CEO, Owner, TRY Recycling Inc.

LMHC is a non-profit corporation that provides subsidized housing for the City of London and Middlesex County. Our mission is to nurture healthy communities with a sense of be-longing for all, by providing safe, quality and affordable housing. LMHC's Assets & Property Services department oversees the physical management, maintenance and repair of the organization's properties, which include 16 high- and low-rise apartment buildings, seven townhome complexes, and scattered detached and semi-detached homes across our service area.

In the past six months, London & Middlesex Housing Corporation (LMHC) has diverted more than 75 tonnes of rubble from local landfills.

LMHC and its contractors-including Curney Mechanical Ltd., which has been replacing waterclosets at several of our apartment buildings-have partnered with TRY Recycling to recycle the construction waste from our properties.

---------------------------------------------------------

Compost Value Day is organized by London Composts, a group of local partners who promote the use of compost. The compost sold on Compost Value Day is made from the City's leaf and yard materials collection program. Proceeds go to the non-profit organizations that provide volunteers on the day.

Trying to garden in poor soil is a never-ending battle. TRY Premium Compost contains organic matter and many valuable plant nutrients that are released in small amounts over an extended period of time. This constant supply of nutrients and organic matter is what helps plants grow and stay healthy. TRY Premium Compost improves soil texture and moisture retention. In clay or heavier soils TRY Premium Compost will reduce compaction (loosen up soil) by increasing soil aeration and porosity. In Sandy soil TRY Premium Compost improves ability to retain moisture and provide a base to hold nutrients.

LONDON CLEAN AND GREEN 2010

What is London Clean and Green Day?

This year, April 17 is the day when thousands of Londoners will work together to help 'clean and green' neighborhoods and parks around our city. We will pick up litter, remove graffiti and plant trees. Numerous designated meeting sites have been identified where volunteers can register, receive information and instruction, and get equipped with garbage bags. Other locations can be added anywhere in the city by registering through the City's website and students can earn community service hours as part of their high school commitment. Please join us! When you do, you can be proud of being part of a growing trend across Ontario, Canada and North America that happens every April.

For the London Clean & Green Day, businesses are encouraged to register for a 20 minute make over...  Friday, April 16th at 2pm...  see below for more information:http://www.cleangreen.london.ca/20min_registration_form.html
